D&D 5E Out of the Abyss IC

"Aah, a far more comfortable rest than we've had in weeks, eh Solace? When you've given the chest the once over then I'll magically open it, just in case you've missed anything!"

OOC:
[roll0]

After using Mage Hand to open the other chest (when Solace has checked it & opened it with key or lockpicks), Kamael will investigate the alternate way down, the hand rails.

Raza Thulcandra

Raza turned to Shuushar and noticed the rope he carried. She indicated it with a nod. "Ah, rope! Useful." She gazed at the enigmatic fish-man a moment before continuing. "You say there is a way down that doesn't involve that chain and bucket contraption? Keep it close to mind, Wise One."

Raza moved away, off the rope bridge and past the stalactite where Solace and Kamael were exploring. She stopped at the cell and peered in but quickly moved to the next. If there were more prisoners, Raza wanted to know. More importantly, she wanted supplies for travel.

[sblock=OOC]Looking at the map posted in the community: Raza wants to do a quick check of areas 2, 3, & 4. Are any of these cells/rooms open? I seem to recall that one of them held the fish. Is area 5 the winch? What can she see of area 1?

Also, haven't decided yet what to do for the short rest. These actions occur before, I think.

After carefully checking the box for traps (using a hook to attempt to trigger anything while keeping her hand out of the way), Solace first uses the keys, and, failing that, lock picks.

[roll0], [roll1] for dex save and lock picking (and/or advantage), in whatever order is needed.

Assuming she is still alive, she takes the treasures she finds (including the decanter and any fluid inside it) down to the ground level. There, she has a happy reunion with Turvey and those within her incipient party.

She is exhausted.

While resting, she spends one hit die [roll2] and contemplates spending another.

Raza found Yellow Quaggoth inside a large natural cavern with long tables and benches. A kitchen and dining hall, it looked like. An overturned barrel lay on its side, and a few half-eaten salted fish lay on the floor. She found another barrel, and though it was empty it reeked of fermented cabbage and ground pepper. She found no other food. Somewhere during this day, she recalled someone saying that the usual delivery of foodstuffs due from Menzoberranzan was several days overdue. Raza found no stored water or other drink. There was only the waterfall. There were two dead drow in the dining hall. The southernmost guard shack contained one dead drow, badly savaged. Another cavern branching off from the platform's west wall had a dead derro. Raza found no one else, dead or alive. Raza checked the open door of one of the hanging stalactites along the edge of the platform. Inside the southernmost stalactite (marked as area 4 on the map, see link below), Raza found a trap door in the floor. A good quality gray wood table and chairs was parked beside a raised pallet. Raza spied a small chest on a shelved carved into the side of the stalactite wall.

Solace used the key to open the chest in the lower bed chamber. The lock snapped open and no trap activated. Inside the chest, Solace found a small purse containing 20 gold pieces, a black velvet mask stitched with silver thread in a spiderweb pattern, a set of bone dice engraved with Elvish script, a small black velvet bag containing a spider-shaped onyx brooch, and a metal flask containing a syrupy substance that, when uncapped, smelled overpoweringly of licorice.

Kamael sipped each of the two clear blue vials of liquid that smelled of almonds. He thought they were both potions of cure wounds.

OOC: Raza can scavage one pound of salted fish from the dining hall. She finds no other food. Map of Velkynvelve. Area 5 is the winch. The door to one of the two stalactites marked as area 4 on the map is open. The other door is closed and locked. Make an Investigation check for Raza, [MENTION=40413]GlassEye[/MENTION], while she is inside one of the two area 4 locations.

Solace scoops up the loot, laughing to herself at the thought of suggesting the dainty silk mask with the silver-webbed filigree was Kago's share of the loot. Other things first, though. She needs to reunite with others and discover where they should head next. And soon.

Raza Thulcandra

Raza hesitated near the quaggoth in the dining hall. She didn't trust them, not at all, and she appeared small, frail, and weak. Just the sort of easy prey a quaggoth might take advantage of. So she put on a mantle of confidence and strode into the hall letting the beast see the flame burning bright in her hand.

Always keeping the quaggoth within her view Raza patted down the dead drow searching for anything useful. She cut the shirt from the first drow and used it to wrap the salted fish she found.

"Fish heads and fish tails, eh? Not much for a big creature like you but plenty for me," she muttered at the quaggoth. She wondered briefly what quaggoth tasted like. If the quaggoth seemed inclined to let her leave with her take of fish she moved off to the stalactite rooms.

She tried the locked door with a little annoyance. If I had the proper tools... She looked back towards the bridge with its spotlight of bright magics lighting up the area. "Kago! Either the drow mistress is gone looking for food or she's cowering behind this locked door; I've not got your talents for demolition." Raza mimed a kick at the door, cackled, and moved to the other stalactite room.

Raza looked around the room and a faint smile twitched at the corners of her mouth. "Ah, promising, but Raza is no fool." She laughed at herself for talking to herself then poked her head out the door. "And another room below this," she called out to Kamael and Solace. Ducking back inside the room she looked all around the small chest then, presuming she found nothing untoward, she pulled it from the shelf.

[sblock=OOC]Investigation: 1D20 = [13] = 13
Perception: 1D20+4 = [19]+4 = 23 Not sure if this is the relevant skill for looking around the chest.

If our original equipment lists included a waterskin, would that have been present in the guardroom where all our other non-valuables were held?
