D&D 5E Out of the Abyss IC

OOC: If your original equipment list included a waterskin, yes, you have the waterskin (and it contains fluid). Your rations, if any, are gone. ALL: I want skills other than Perception to get more play, and, based on a year's worth of PbP 5e, using Investigation to actively check out rooms for treasure, clues, or other discoverable items feels more appropriate to me than does perception. This is why you'll see me switch from calling for Perception to calling for Investigation once an encounter is done and we've moved on to treasure hunting.

Yellow Quaggoth said nothing to Raza and did not react when she completed wrapping and taking the fish. She had, however, the distinct impression that removing more than what she took almost certainly would have drawn a reaction. Raza picked up and looked inside the small chest, which proved to be unlocked. Inside she found: a short sword, a hand crossbow with a case of 20 bolts, a 50' coil of silk rope with a small grappling hook at the end, and a small metal flask of some kind of unguent that burned her nose hair when she sniffed it. She found also a small purse with 3 silver coins, 1 gold coin, and 8 coppers.

OOC: When each of the two stalactites (marked area 4) were unlocked and investigated, the party found a total of four small rooms that looked as if they were the personal living quarters of a mid-level drow elf. Each room was nearly identical, each an unlocked chest, and each chest had the items I describe above. It's time to move on.

By hook or by crook, everyone gathered at the base of the winch. Yellow, Blue, and Plain Quaggoth remained behind. With the group, however, were Stool, Jimjar, Shuushar, and Turvey. Jimjar piped up, "Blingdenstone is north, a few days beyond Menzoberranzan. I peg the drow city at 26 days' walk, and my city another four beyond that." Jimjar's utterance immediately drew garbled but irritated Undercommon from Turvey, who seemed to actively not want to head to either the drow or the svirfneblin city. Stool remained closed beside Brinn. For now, the link was closed; the myconid sproutling offered no communication. When Turvey calmed down, Shuushar blinked once slowly then gestured with an open palm toward the western passageway. "The Great Darklake and my home port of Sloobludop lie to the west, perhaps only 8 days of walking from here. I know the way." Turvey began gesturing wildly at the southern entrance, but was totally unintelligible.

Brinn paused, and stared at Kamael.

What is the source of this light?

Kamael, puzzled, looked back at Brinn.

I believe it is called "The Weave", it is a part of everything, like the air - although I don't know why it didn't work in our cage. I have always had an instinctive ability to manipulate it, as does Solace to a lesser extent. It would seem the other two can also, though they had to be explicitly instructed to do so. How are you unfamiliar with it?

"As you wish, I intended no offense. However, I'm surprised the spell is still working; it normally only lasts an hour before needing to be renewed. Solace and I can see in the dark, but I gather you cannot. Having demonstrated the spell does not harm the object it is cast upon, and I say that to emphasise that it is not being cast upon you personally, would you like me to cast it on a stick or something similar that you can carry?"

Raza Thulcandra

Raza gathered with the others at the bottom of the cavern. She had rested briefly and she felt better and also had restored to mind some spells in case further healing would be needed. At the end of the rest, when everyone seemed ready to head on, Raza cast a spell upon herself giving herself the ability to see in the dark.

Raza gave Kamael a narrowed gaze when he insisted she describe items that belonged to her instead of letting her collect them herself. "Keeping the rest for yourself, are you?" She didn't seem happy with the arrangement but complied and described a set of bone dice, a lump of stinky incense, a heart chipped from obsidion, and a small pin of black stone; all things she hadn't found in the armory. She shows Kamael the unguent. Perhaps you can put your skills to figuring out this."

After stowing her items away she turned to the others. "I'm for going to Shuushar's city."

Kamael readily returns the requested objects to Raza, and also the sum of 10 gold which she originally claimed to possess.

"You're welcome to examine the contents of the sack at any time, Ma'am, should you have any concerns!
That heart of obsidian you described - as it happens I do have something very similar, but I found it a long time ago in the sleeping pallet of a friend who went missing. Is is a religious symbol of some sort?"

Kamael shows his obsidian trinket to Raza.

OOC: CB, can Raza see that that is not hers, or are they really identical? Presumably hers was with the rest of the non-valuable belongings in the guard room?

I will attempt an arcana check on the unguent: [roll0]
