Plain ol' Fighters: Likes & Dislikes?

I have an idea, how about at the dead levels (5th, 7th, 11th, 13th, 17th, & 19th) you get the following:

Trained Combatant: At levels 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, & 19 the fighter gets to choose one of the following (no one may be selected more than once):
Knowledge ~ Local becomes a class skill
Heal ~ becomes a class skill
+6 bonus skill points
Profession ~ Any becomes a class skill
+2 Inherent bonus to one save (May be selected up to 3 times, once for each save)
Tumble ~ becomes a class skill
Knowledge ~ Arcana becomes a class skill
Knowledge ~ Herbalism becomes a class skill
Spot ~ becomes a class skill
Listen ~ becomes a class skill
Knowledge ~ Nobility and Royalty becomes a class skill
Knowledge ~ Monsters becomes a class skill
Knowledge ~ Nature becomes a class skill
Knowledge ~ Religion becomes a class skill

Idea is free to all... :)

Likes: almost all of it.

Disklikes:

Free armor feats. Really screws over light armor fighters.
Not enough high level feat choices. The PH II put a dent in this problem, but there's more to go.

Likes: feats, HP, BAB

Dislikes: everything else

Fighters need something more, something better - they are frankly a bit weak and blah as of now... anyways, I've made a few houserules to solve this:

Warrior's Training (ex): With any feat that requires a stat bonus which is on, and chosen from, the Fighter Bonus Feat list (meaning, the feats you gain as a fighter and not the normal feats everyone receives) your stats are treated as being two higher than what they are to meet the prereqs. IE You have 11 Strength and may treat your strength as being 13 to meet the prereqs for Power Attack.

Floating Bonus feat (ex): this ability allows fighters to choose a new feat at the beginning of every day. They must meet the prereqs for the feat and it must be drawn from the normal "Fighter Bonus Feats" list. It cannot be used for meeting the prereq of another feat (exceot another Floating Bonus feat, if you have enough levels to choose for that day), PrC, etc. You gain this at level 6, 12 and 18 in lieu of a normal fighter bonus feat.

Warrior's Spirit (Su): At 7th, 13th and 19th level, a fighter gains a cumulative +1 bonus on all saves versus magic. This is always active, except in magic-supressing situations.

Oh, and prfession as a Class Skill. Duh.

I encourage any who are interested to chekc out my What DO you DO threads in the House Rules forum for further ideas on changing all the base classes (alphabetically, we are at Paladins now). Here's a link to 'Fighters'

But they ought to have Spot, Listen, Balance, and Tumble as class skills, too.
Actually, this gave me an idea: let fighters either have heavy and medium armours and tower shields, ***or*** light armours, Tumble and Balance and 4 skill points a level.

Profession is class for both.

What do folks think of that?

Likes:
Great for gestalting/multiclassing for all the reasons mentioned above

Dislikes:
Terrible for non-gestalt/multiclass for all the reasons mentioned above

I like the fighter - very versatile for concepts - and what I do with them is this:

At first level a fighter can choose any two skills, any at all. These two skills become class skills for the fighter, and the fighter gets 4 ranks in them. (If the 1st level of fighter is taken after the 1st character level, the character just gets two extra class skills for her fighter levels.)

This gives the fighter some sort of noncombat shtick while not being really enough to step on anyone's toes. A watchman may get Spot and Listen (but not Hide/ Move Silently). A thug might get Hide and Move Silently. A knightly fighter might take Diplomacy and Knowledge (nobility). A sailor, Profession (sailor) and Knowledge (geography). A mage's bodyguard, Knowledge (arcana) and Spellcraft. And so on.

Like: Lots of feats, which means you have lots of options for combat. I have a sixth level Fighter who Dual Wields and he is a blast to play. :)

Dislike: Small skill list and a low amount of skillpoints lead to me not being able to do much but fight. :(
My thoughts exactly.

I like them personally, though not as much in 3e/3.5 as previous editions, but the feat trees give plenty of customisation options and I like being able to get in there and melee.

The thinking man's class. With forethought they are absolute combat MACHINES.

Constant pimping as the "n00b" class when feat picking is absolutely crucial in making a fighter not be a sucky barbarian, paladin, or ranger. One of the hardest classes to really bring to its fullest potential.
Only 2 Skill points a level and a sucky skill list.
Nearly a third of the class is nulls. Give me a break. Just look at the core classes like the Druid, Ranger, Rogue, Bard, or Monk. Every time you level in those classes you get a lil sumpin' sumpin'. The fighter doesn't get jack.
Lastly, the Weapon Focus/Specialization Feat Tree. This shouldn't be a feat tree, this should be granted to every fighter for free, for being a fighter. Preferably at some of the null levels.
