Plain ol' Fighters: Likes & Dislikes?

Narrow Class Skills

Dislike
In 4.0 I really hope the class skills are opened up. Everytime I try to stat out a fighter with an interesting background, I end up stymied by the narrow skill list.

Like
I love the feats. 3x now offers lots of ways to keep the fighter relevant in combat. In 2e I used to get depressed that my 8th level fighter was outshined by every other class at higher levels.

I'd throw in shields for the light fighter too (or at least a buckler).

Nice and simple, I like it.
Shields are assumed to be there, but SBers don't get the normal tower shield, is all :)

We made the fighter a vastly more interesting class by making all skills class skills for everyone.
We've done that in one campaign, but I wish we could convince all of our GMs to do that. It still doesn't make up for the low skill points some classes get, though.

Fighters can be very versatile despite their limitations, though. That's what I really love about their weapon and armor proficiences and bonus feats. I'm currently running a fighter/Tempest who uses paired swords. Recently we ran into some undead skeletons for the first time in the campaign and I was feeling a bit useless having no bludgeoning weapon, until I realized that disarm and sunder really aren't that difficult to do, especially not with my PC's attack bonuses - with the Tempest class features he now has no penalties to two-weapon fighting. :D

I've always enjoyed playing fighters, especially when the DM says "Roll Initiative"

Seriously what other class is so fun to play in any combat. Sure, the casters shine in this fight or that fight, but Fighters are effective in almost every fight.

With the number of options, you can play a lot of different types of fighters now and they will always be the best option for any character based around a weapon.

I enjoy playing fighters for the same reasons as everyone else. The only difference is I play in the world of Arcanis. In the Players Guide to Arcanis there are a decent number of fighter oriented feats to help increase the effectiveness at higher levels. The feats include Such cool things as Avalanche, Balanced Blades, Canny Fighter, Flowing Sand and Improved Quick Draw. I like the options it opens up for fighters and wish fighters got bouns feats in the dead levels.
