While the MtG version of the Naiad ended up in Candlekeep Mysteries, it's origin is mythology and D&D lore already had Naiads. I believe this is the first time they took completely MtG creatures that were created for MtG specifically, no outside source, and introduced them to mainstream D&D. This of course allows them to also use the lovely MtG art.

Does this set presidence for MtG creatures finding their way into classic D&D settings like FR or Planescape? Could we find say Battleforce Angels on Mount Celestial or Firemane Angels on Aborea or Theros demons in the Abyss as was hinted at in Moot? MtG Archons added to the Mount Celestia Archon Hierarchy?

They've been making a push to (re)establish and expand on the "core" D&D multiverse for some time now and "canonically" connecting it to the Magic multiverse would just serve to blow up Planescape/the Great Wheel right as they're being given new life.

I don't mind them finding ways to port in various creatures that originate in Magic, but at least for the moment, keeping the multiverses "technically" separate and limiting Magic's influence to the occasional crossover setting book and small bundles of character species/subclass/monster options is probably the better approach.

If they want a book on how to merge the two, I'm all for it, but yeah, you also don't plop the Lady of Pain into Dark Sun or Elminster into Greyhawk.
