Scotley's Tomb of Horrors 3.5

Garagos, AC 29 (T19, FF27), HP 90/107, DR 3/-, F +11,R+6,W+10

"At least the first two ones... Let's give the last a try, before we digging through the whole thing. We are short of a few more dwarves to do the mining right, anyway." Garagos says.

[sblock=OOC]

I meant only to suggest, that we leave the second entrance be and dig the 3rd one open. I don't think, that they are all dead ends.

Oh, ok. Sorry for my misunderstanding. Actually, Logan would just as soon forget this place entirely right now and head back to town to have a brew!

Jillian Tealeaf, Rogue9, AC25,FF19,T17, HP37/37, F+4,R+13,W+5

Jillian climbs out of the second tunnel, relays her findings and then starts to help excavate the third tunnel. Once she is able to squeeze through she will again take careful time to search completely before moving down the tunnel.

OOC: Taking 20 on search checks for a total check of 34.

Logan says, "My sense is that Garagos has the right idea. I fear that these passageways are all going to prove to be nothing more than dead ends filled with more deadly traps."

OOC: Didn't you know? The whole adventure is nothing more than dead ends filled with more deadly traps. However, Garagos has the right of it--the third time is the charm as they say.

Jillian slips into the third opening. Again she finds a 20' wide corridor leading south into the hill. This one is 65' deep. Brilliant colors are everywhere; pigments painted on stone are undimmed by the passage of decades. The floor is a colorful mosaic, featuring a distinct, winding path of red tiles forming a 2-foot-wide, meandering trail south down the corridor. A few chips and gaps reveal that cement or plaster covers the underlying stonework of the corridor, and it mostly provides a smooth surface for the many illustrated scenes. The images depict fields with cattle grazing, a copse with several wolves in the background, slaves—human, orc, elven, and strange human/animal mixtures of pig-human, ape-human, and dog-human—going about various tasks.

Certain frescoes are more focused and show rooms of some building—a library filled with many books and scrolls, a torture chamber, and a wizard’s work room. Chairs, windows, boxes, bales, doors, chests, birds, bats, spiders, and all manner of things appear on the walls.

Jillian is certain the corridor is filled with traps. There are several pits traps scattered along the corridor. There are other interesting features at the far end of the chamber, but first Jillian will need to bypass the pits. There are curious things in the frescoes and they might need more investigation as well.

[sblock=Anyone entering the corridor and making a DC20 spot check]You see that the floor mosaic hides barely noticeable runes: a message in
Common. It says the following:

ACERERAK CONGRATULATES YOU ON YOUR POWERS OF OBSERVATION. SO MAKE OF THIS WHATEVER YOU WISH, FOR YOU WILL BE MINE IN THE END NO MATTER WHAT!

Go back to the tormentor or through the arch, and the second great hall you’ll discover. Shun green if you can, but night’s good color is for those of great valor. If shades of red stand for blood the wise will not need sacrifice aught but a loop of magical metal—you’re well along your march. Two pits along the way will be found to lead to a fortuitous fall, so check the wall.
These keys and those are most important of all, and beware of trembling hands and what will maul. If you find the false you find the true and into the columned hall you’ll come, and there the throne that’s key and keyed. The iron men of visage grim do more than meets the viewer’s eye. You’ve left and left and found my Tomb and now your soul will die. [/sblock]

Jillian Tealeaf, Rogue9, AC25,FF19,T17, HP37/37, F+4,R+13,W+5

After searching and finding several pits Jillian is about to go about disarming the pits but stops when she notices the runes hidden in the floor mosaic. She stops and reads them. "Hmmm. How inviting." Then she goes about disarming the pit traps.

OOC:
Normal take 10 checks: Disable Device 26, Listen 25, Spot 23
Normal take 20 checks: Open Lock 40, Search 34

Ballista, HP48/48, AC 24/29vRanged(FF19/24vR-T15/20vR) F5 R13 W6

Ballista slips inside the hole after giving the trapfinder a good 10 minute head start, but makes no move forward. The archer draws her bow from her quiver and lightly walks up the wall as if it was the most normal of occurences. She takes her time looking around, having no intention of being the one to set off another disasterous trap. Even if she doesn't see anything she doesn't advance, choosing to cover the halfling from her elevated position.

Spot: 24

"Hmmm the key is in the wall is it?" She relays the message word for word to those waiting outside as she is still just inside the widening hole that the rest of the party is working on.

The singer pauses as she looks at the saying on the floor, delving into her vastly random knowledge about such places, but is quite sure she has never heard of it. It must be because she has never before set foot in this land and has yet to learn of the local legends.

Bardic Knowledge: 7

"Oye Jillsie, Do those trap doors in the floor look like they're attached to any other spring rods or other types of michief? This part here about two pits leading to fortuitous falls might mean theres loot to be had at the bottom for any clever enough to survive all the way to the bottom. Watcha think love, Should we maybe open one up and take a look-see inside?"

Grackle, gnome sorcerer 9

Grackle stays a good 30 feet behind the rest of the group, slowly following them inside and keeping his eyes peeled for more hurty things. He decides not to waste more mojo on summoning rocks yet, so he doesn't help with clearing away the next pile of rubble.

That doesn't stop him from trying to question the rocks on the floor and walls, though. For whatever reason, they don't answer back. Grackle spends the next several minutes disappointed while he waits for Jill and the others to deal with whatever hurty things are ahead. He stays out of the colorful room, but stares at its murals in awe from a short distance.

Something deep inside him, something gnomish, tells him to go forward, talk to the walls, lick the pretty walls, see if they're made of candy or rocks or rock-candy.... He resists the urge for a little bit, but he's certainly getting more fidgety....

Garagos carfully listens for Ballista's words, as he stays out side with the gnome.

Logan is also still outside, awaiting the next casualty and raptly watching Grackle's antics with fascinated amusement.

"You know, Grackle, I hear that some of the walls further on inside are Chocolate!"
