I find it an unneed inclusion, it's a big galaxy not everyone should be tied in with Anakin. Dont get me wrong, I love the "walking carpet", but so many things need to be addressed that I dont see how chewie cant be anything more than an easter egg.

BLASPHEMY!!! :D
And as to the Salvatore comment. I LIKED what he did with Chewie. C'mon, it took a whole MOON! Chewie was never my favorite, but it just will add something so great to the movie.

Salvatore was TOLD buy Lucas and company to kill Chewie off, don't blame Him. I'm hoping Chewie rips Jar Jar's head off.

Chewie won't save Episode III from Lucas' directing or the bad acting that we've seen in the last two movies.

That said, if Chewie did rip off Jar-Jar's arms, I think I could forgive Lucas quite a bit.

I really think he might have a scene with Obi-wan, they seemed to have known each other when the meet up in cantina in A NEW HOPE.

Easy, tiger. :p

Besides, none of those books are canon anyway...
You know, I expected this from the Star Trek franchise, but I thought that George Lucas and Lucasfilm are going to treat their novels as part of the Star Wars timeline (along with the movies), with the exception of those labeled as Infinities (similar in concept to DC Comics' Elseworld series).

Forgive the language, but what a pisser! I'm totally disappointed in Georgie-boy.

BTW, since the voice actor for Chewie died (he was a brown bear, I believe) are they going to use stock sound clips from the Original Trilogy or find a new voice?

P.S. Yes, I've already accepted Chewie's death in NJO. He made a heroic sacrifice.

This has been true for years, man. The only books that are considered canon are novelizations of the movies themselves. I would hate it if every single Star Wars novel were part of canon. That would certainly be a case of too many cooks. Its Lucas baby and I'm pretty certain he hasn't even read 90% of the Star Wars novels.

As for the Chewie voice, I don't think (take from that what you wish) he'll be in the movie all that much so they'll probably use the same methods as they did with the original movies. The Star Wars movies have always had an excellent and distinct sound and I'm sure Ep3 will uphold that. :)

Not Canon?????

Um, where do you get your information that the Star Wars novels are not canon?? Ever since Lucas released the news that he was releasing EP1, he made it clear that hed decided to let the novels cover the events that occured after the battle of Endor. True, there is actually a seperate department of Lucas film that approved all the story lines that deal with the Star Wars Universe. But that department reports to GL, and ultimately he approves the story ideas. I am speaking with some experience, I tried to get involved with the RPGA Living Force campaign, and coresponded regularly with one of the directors of the campaign. It was due to all the red tape that Lucasfilm demanded that kept me from submitting work. Because Lucas wants all the approved Star Wars stuff to be canon, it must be approved by him or his people.

Ok so my rant was a little off topic, I was just suprised by John's comment. Chewie rules, it will be great to see him, even if it's just a cameo. I've had lunch with Mr Mayhew in the past, he's a great guy and it would be wonderful if he got to play Chewie again.

One of the official sites (I cant recall which one, maybe starwars.com?) talks about canonity. It says that its either just the movies, or the movies and all the novels and comics save Infinities. It didnt give us one answer.

That said though John, you can't hold the novels of the movies as canon either if you don't think the other books are, since that passage (which I wish I could quote) mentions them specifically as not being canon in that stance, due to someone else writing them.

Me, I go with the Expanded Universe as canon theory. And nothing officially says thats wrong.
