Episode 1 was a bit weak to me, Epsiode 2 was fun but just kind of zanny. Episode 3 was rock solid. Great adventure, we got some awesome character interaction with M'benga and Pike...and they resolved that mystery from last season in a cool fashion.

The scene in the shuttlecraft where the two guys are just talking about old times, its such a simple scene but its one of those things I think so many shows just miss the memo on character interaction. That scene both gave us more backstory for Pike and M'benga, showed us some of their shared history, and made them look like real people (because thats what you do when your stuck traveling with nothing else to do, you shoot the s**t).

Its funny how those kinds of scenes are just missing in a lot of other shows.

Perhaps, but the writers have obviously gone to great pains to make us believe he's a Q.

With respect, "great pains" is hiring John DeLancie for the parent's voice. It isn't like Trelane and Q are the only nigh-omnipotent beings we've seen in Trek.

No, I don't think the finger-snap thing counts, as I am pretty sure that habit was established in "Squire of Gothos".

Perhaps the home world to which he was referring is the original home world of the Q, where they evolved until an apotheosis point and transfer to the Continuum. That's not without precedent in Trek.

Many things are possible.

But, when doing analysis, the first step is to review what you actually have, what is the precedent, not what is possible.

There's bit of selection bias in accepting everything that vaguely says that he's a Q, but sweeping aside all contraindications.

If they wanted to say, unequivocally, "Trelane is a Q", they could have done so more clearly, like having the parent say, "My apologies to all you mortals. I must take this young one back to the Continuum," or otherwise referred directly to uniquely Q lore.

I mean, sure, you don't hare John Delancie if you don't want the fans to think it, but actor choice isn't in-canon evidence.

I'm not saying any unequivocally. I'm suggesting a way for the Q people to be right that has a bit of textual evidence from the lore. No hard claims are being made.

Word of God/Word of St. Paul is yes. In regard to Peter David connecting Trelane to Q and SNW's portraly of Trelane-Is-A-Q, "co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman told Inverse: 'Greater minds than ours put it together, and we were like, well, let us reward that brilliant thinking by making it canon'" (1), although, in terms of "When" SNW/Trelane intersects, in terms of The Enterprise's timeline and Trelane, "According to Goldsman and Myers, all options are valid and on the table" (2). So, that sounds to me like, "Yeah, we say Trelane is a Q, and you should think that too. But we'll leave JUST enough of a back door in case we need to change that later."
