They're Bringing Evil Back. ( 3.5 DnD )

"Ecavate the town?!" His tone hints at the crazyness (yep, I said it) in that notion. "Where would people go? This is their home. No no. I'm sure you folks can take care of matters. About a reward.." He shrugs a bit. "Back in my day, helping those in need was reward enough. But, I'm sure you may keep whatever treasure you may happen upon. If you seek more than that, I'm not the man to speak to. You best direct those questions right to Rufus and Burne." He should've known that Richard's son was going to be a handful, thank the Gods he didn't have to travel with him. "The moathouse is about.. ten or so miles east of here. There's a road that leads off the main path. If you go to far.. you'll hit the town of Nulb." He scowls and adds.. " A wretched place. I'd steer clear of there, lads. And lady! Be sure to stay on the road laid out for you, never know what may be laying low in the underbrush..."

Yun listens to Olster and shrugs at the mention of reward. He still has money left from his last reward, so he is in no danger of starving, especially with the free, if not entirely friendly service. He finishes up the stew and then says to all assembled. "I am ready to go, but I will wait a while for anyone else who desires to come and they may share a ride in my wagon."

It suddenly occurs to him that Olster did not answer the questions he had meant to ask and he says, "Sir, when you first mentioned the moat house, you also spoke of unwelsome clerics. Is there anything more you can tell me about them?"

After Yun gets through talking to Olster, Nairb grunts and says "Okay, if his holiness (pointing at Yun) doesn't need a reward, I don't need one either. Maybe once this moathouse is cleared out I can find a real man's town, this Nulb sounds pretty promising. And does it matter what kind of evil clerics there are, they're evil, we kill them and take their stuff, pretty simple to me.

Olster didn't like taking this journey down memory lane, his feelings clearly displayed upon his weathered visage. "Volom was a wonderful wizard. I didn't have the pleasure of fighting with him until his final breaths, as I was injured in one of the first raids and when we came back here to Hommlet I took refuge for a few days while the others ventured back inside. I'm not certain on what lead him to his final resting place, son, but I can guarantee you that he didn't go down without a fight. One of the bravest spell-slinging sonsabitches I've ever met." His words were crude, but that was exactly how he felt. What Olster didn't share was that when he returned to the temple for the final time, it was out of guilt and bitterness. Maybe he wasn't exactly the most courageous men.

So, he wasn't actually with Volom. So he was one of the scavengers who came in after my father's raid, picked up the pieces, and declared himself victorious. I suppose in the end though, it's the survivors that claim victory, no matter if they really contributed or not.

Vendan regards Olster for a moment, then sighs.

"So who else is going then?"

Yun looks at Nairb, still puzzled. "I think that you are confused, I am not a priest, though this man, who is, has not asked for a reward either." Unable to even begin to formulate a response to Nairb's bizarre comment about the Clerics he instead turns to Olster, and waits for the old man to answer his question.

Rolling her eyes skywards after Nairb made his comment, Jayla turns to Vendan. I was planning to be a part of this from the beginning. I have already pledged to my aunt that I will see this tasks to it's completion.

"It would be folly to try to stop me from being involved. " Erik announced evenly. He took hold of his Holy Symbol and muttered a prayer under his breath and then gave it a brief kiss before locking his steely gaze upon Olster eager to learn more of what he knew.

After hearing about the prospect of valuables and of being involved in something from his fathers past, Serin quickly changes his mind to the thoughts of what the future will bring after he defeats this mighty evil and cashes in the rewards along with the vast wealth that he will be plundering from the temple. He grabs for his rapier and draws it out, holding it into the air, "I'm in! Who else?" He looks at the others, as if challenging them to the task at hand.

Yun imediately drops into a combat stance at the sound of a weapon being drawn, and almost tackles Serin before he realizes what he is doing. Relaxing slightly, he looks around at the others of the assembled group. "If I am not mistaken, every one of us has already stated that we should complete this task. I also must ask that you please do not unsheathe your weapon unless you intend to use it."

Vendan nods at Yun. "It's alright Yun, I don't think Serin means anyone harm."

To Olster, he says "Yes, please tell us all you can about the moathouse, what you know, and what you suspect."

Vendan turns to the others and considers them each a moment before continuing.

"My father, Volom, gave his life fighting this evil. And with that life, he sealed the fate of our whole family. Without his presence, extortionists and con artists impoverished our family, until we were so weak that in the end we fell prey to marauding brigands and evil humanoids. I'm the last of our family, and unlike my father when he came here, I have no heir to carry on my family name. Yet, I will continue on and face this evil anew."

"But understand this, I'm going for one reason only, to honor my father and finish the task he started. The same task that others claim to have finished for him. I intend to finish that task. And if we claim sufficient loot, I aim to restore the Iskrune family and fortune, reclaim and rebuild Tower Iskrune, and carry on the family name."

"I will go, but I want to know who here..."
Vendan looks at Olster briefly for a moment "...has the courage to see this thing through with me. So I ask each of you, will you say, as I have said, why you are going? I want to know who is committed to this task of investigating the moathouse, and who might be turning tail at the first sign of trouble. It will be good to know starting out who among you can be relied upon."
