They're Bringing Evil Back. ( 3.5 DnD )

Yun stares at Maridosen rather awkwardly throughout the entire time that she is waiting, wondering as to the unhappy look on her face. Just as she is urged to leave, he suddenly blurts out. "Are you troubled by something?"

Maridosen narrows her eyes. "I'm troubled by outsiders making their way into town. Nothing good ever follows those that do not belong. Never." Her words are nearly snarled as she ends the conversation with Yun by taking her leave.

"I apol-" Yun cuts himself off as she stalks off, wondering just why it is she is so strongly against travelers. Then he remembers that he is supposed to be paying attention to the old man and turns back to face him, looking flustered. Then he realizes that the man is concentraiting on two of the others in the group. At the same time, his stomach growls rather obnoxiously, so he moves over to get a bowl of gruel. At this point he gives Vesta a short nervous glance and mumers. "If it is not asking too much of your private affairs... What is the grievance that your- er, that Maridosen has with travelers?"

After the old man asks him about his parentage, Nairb's eyes flash with a combination of rage and sadness. He stays silent for a moment and says "I'm Nairb, Richard's- son" barely choking the last word out of his mouth.

Vendan peered at this new man. He knew his father Volom Iskrune. Not only knew him, but they had talked, about Vendan! They must have been pretty close. Either that or they had shared at least a couple drinks together.

Whatever the case, Vendan had no idea what was going on here, or who any of these people were. He guessed they had received some sort of letter from this man.

"Sorry, but who are you? How do you know my father? And why do you want to meet us here?"

"Maridosen has a problem with everyone. In fact - Mari has a problem with life in general. She's not a very.. happy person. I'm this close to firing her." She indicates how close with her thumb and index digit, barely an inch between the two. The old man's brow furrows and he frowns at Nairb's reaction. "I'm sorry son for your loss." Gundigoot had no idea that the fighter and his father didn't get along. He quickly snaps out of his sad moment at Vendan's questions. "Why, I'm Olster Gundigoot! I was one of the originals to take down the temple, I worked with your relatives so many years ago. As did Rufus and Burne. That is why they have contacted you. They would've held court with you themselves, but with the current events they have been very busy... so they asked me to." He was still leaving them in the dark as to why exactly they had been called to Hommlet. "I'm sure the lot of you have heard of the Temple, yes? How an Evil moved into many many years ago, and exactly fifteen years ago a group of adventurers destroyed it once again. Those were my friends and your family. The Evil has risen once again, and as my generation are either dead or too old to venture inside.. we needed younger blood to do it. And who would be more fitting than the kin of those prior?!" He had gotten himself all worked up with excitement and had actually turned a funny shade of red, his hand moving to his chest.. his heart beating wildly against its cage. Vesta quickly makes way to her father's side. "Dad, you need to calm down. You cannot get like this with your condition." The old man waves her away but she doesn't budge. "Bah. I'm fine, I'm fine. Can I answer any questions?" His second sentence offered to those gathered.

Yun is still confused, but Vesta has apparently said all that she isn't going to. He nods respectfully and turns back to the elder Gundigoot, slowly consuming his gruel as he listens. He seems surprised to hear about the temple and the events surrounding it, but does not interrupt until Olster is finished speaking and asks them for questions. "Uh, sir, I... do not mean to be inpertinate but... well, fifteen years seems... a short time." It was true that he knew very little about his father or his past. With the subject of his mother off limits he rarely asked about anything that might remind his father of the taboo subject. In fact, the only things he knew about his own past were the things he could remember himself...

Olster Gundigoot? Vendan had never heard of him. Then again, Volom had never returned to tell him of anything. He looked around at the others. The elder human cleric, the fighter and monk, the shady rogue, that strange girl... they were all family of Volom's companions too?

"How an Evil moved in... and a group of adventurers destroyed it..." Vendan shakes his head, as if shaking cobwebs out of it. Then he looks up, suddenly alert, his eyes wide, piercing into Olster. "How did he die? How did Volom Iskrune fall? And how did he meet his end?" He looks around at the others, then back to Olster. "How did he?"

Serin sets his pack down, listens to Olster, and eats some of the grub handed to him, "Thank you" he says for the food. While standing and listening he starts to try and remember some of the stories he has been told, some of which he wondered how true they were. If this old man can tell enough of the facts in order, perhaps Serin can actually piece together in his mind his fathers life in chronological order, up till this point it has been just snippets and assumptions that he has tucked away in the back of his mind, hidden by his dark eyes. "I am not sure how much like my father I am, being I havent seen for almost 15 years. I musta been about 10 last time he laid eyes on me, prior to his accident." It would seem Serin has a bitterness about discussing his father regarding his death, although it seems more like a accusation when the word accident was used.

Nairb stays slouched in his corner until Gungigoot got to the part about evil having risen again. "Look, I'm not my fathers son, if this is going where I think it is going, then you'd better have some damn good reason why I want to risk my skin stopping evil. Especially when I've got a pending job offer from an Istivin merchant company. I could be guarding a caravan in a few weeks, and that's pretty damn easy."

((OOC: I'd like to make a sense motive check on Gungigoot and his talk of evil returning.))
