The rather large and vicious looking fowler was very fast as it loped toward Sprthnt. Kuwaia, also very quick and enhanced, was just fast enough to get in its way. Unable to dance to her right, she was also unable to cut through its flesh though her sword did make contact. The creature, later learned to be a wolverine whipped its head around and caught ahold of Kuwaia’s hip, but the bite was fleeting and only her tunic was damaged.

A bit farther out of range than he would like to be, Antapkos loosed a javelin, anyway. At almost the same instant, the faster flying arrow from Siofrita reaches the destination of the javelin. Neither projectile can puncture the thick hide of the animal. Though he is firing from point blank, he must take care to not hit Kuwaia, and the arrow from Sprthnt, though striking true, falls harmlessly to the ground just like the other two projectiles.

With only about two seconds of time having elapsed, Cormorante and Britta do not yet reach the fray. The wolverine makes its sickening sound again, turning its full attention to Kuwaia, its closest victim. As it does so, it yelps as if hurt, but there is no visible sign of injury for the ionization from Siofrita and the heat from Sprthnt cannot be seen.

Bodily trying to keep herself in the focus of the nasty beast, Kuwaia curls her left sword in a vertical, counter-gyre motion to try to clip it under the chin, whirling her body in a similar manner as she does to try to bring her right sword in to play, after. Deciding that he is too slow with his bow, Sprthnt will concentrate on his mystical assault, using a pinch of sulfur to enhance his talent to generate heat.

Cormorant continues to charge forward, hoping to come up on the animal from it backside to assist Kuwaia. He will plant his left leg as he reaches it to torque more power into thrusting his right javelin, hoping to pierce its right flank. Britta, who is more defensive, will move closer but hold any assault so as to not interfere with the efforts of either of her two friends.

Trusting his aim, which is better than average, Antapkos will continue to run forward, launching his second javelin from much closer range. Siofrita is not as confident and, like Sprthnt, forsakes her bow to concentrate on her mystical assault. She too will use a pinch of sulfur; but for her, it is to enhance her talent to make internal fluids caustic.

Kuwaia moves her body like flowing water, but the upper cut misses the creature’s chin and hits its torso instead, because the beast lunges for the woman simultaneously. The sword still cannot cut through the hide, but neither can the bite contact flesh. Cormorante, even with his enhanced strength fares no better. The hide is just too resilient.

Before Antapkos can launch his second assault, the mystical ionization from Siofrita and the mystical heat from Sprthnt assault the animal internally. The damage is severe enough to incapacitate the monster; but as the damage takes away the ability to move, the thing spins its hind end around spraying an extremely noxious liquid onto Cormorante, Kuwaia, and Sprthnt. It then falls to the ground, lying on its side, rasping for desperate breath. It cannot move.

Since it cannot move, the final assault of Antapkos becomes its death sentence. The sharp ceramic javelin pierces into his gut, spilling forth blood and intestinal fluid. The evil looking creature seems to smile as it dies, baring sharp teeth to rival those of any canine.

Antapkos, Siofrita, and Britta, can all smell the terrible liquid; but not being in direct contact, it is merely a stench. Cormorante, Sprthnt, and Kuwaia, are all overcome with coughing and gagging for several minutes. Antapkos and Siofrita both, instinctively, realize that they can bend chemical waylines to negate the awful odor, but only time will undo the negative effects upon the three who were sprayed.

With Cormorante, Sprthnt, and Kuwaia, all overcome by the stench and since the beast canot move, Antapkos stabs it in the neck with a retrieved javelin and in the abdomen with his sword, making sure that it is dead. Siofrita will alter the air to remove the horrible smell and negate the toxicity of the liquid on her three friends. Once Sprthnt has sufficiently recovered, he will clean the creature to collect its hide and anything else that seems to be of interest. Recognizing that it is a fowler from having been sprayed, the meat will be discarded, as it is suspected to be inedible.

With the loss of movement, the resilient hide is not enough on its own to prevent Antapkos from killing the beast. Though more time is still needed for Cormorante, Sprthnt, and Kuwaia to recover from having been sprayed. The abatement of the awful smell is appreciated by everyone.

Though Sprthnt is currently the best of the party at preparing game, the wolverine proves to be a bit beyond his skill and only 70% of the hide can be collected, which provides only about 40% of coverage. The hide is still valuable and scraped of its fur, can likely be traded for close to 50 clams. No special parts from the animal could be effectively collected, so the carcass was discarded and left for the vultures.

Another day and a half of following along the western edge of Land’s End Pass brings the party to a similar grove of trees, though this one is a bit smaller. By midday, the source of water that makes the growth of the grove possible is reached and the party takes some well needed respite. After some refreshment and rest, it is discovered that the trickle of water coming down the rock face has cut a significant groove in the cliff. There is enough of an angle that it looks easy enough to climb to attempt to locate the source of the water. Punctuating this fact, it looks as if the path is periodically used by other people, though none has yet been seen or heard.

Noticing the particular slant to the trickle of falling water, the six will see about negotiating the climb to see what might be atop the cliff. Antapkos, being the most vocal, exclaims, “Hey, this waterfall looks like an easy climb. Let us take a look up top.”

Deciding to get a fresh start and more time for exploring the ascending path, the party waited until the next morning to begin the climb or at least that was the intention. As everyone secured his gear and began to make the approach, a slight cascade of small rocks and gravel gave pause, and the party backs away to see if anyone could find the cause.

Unaware that they were being observed from below, a raiding party of Da’Roneh was currently descending the path. Much of it could be negotiated without the need for using hands, and this group moved rather quickly since they were not expecting trouble. Thinking back on discussion while traveling with caravans, everyone recalls having been told that caravans were regularly raided by a clan of young Da’Roneh, at about the same point along the Southern Trade Route. This could very well be that clan, looking to head toward the road.

The party will separate into their usual pairs and back farther into the trees. Antapkos, Siofrita, and Sprthnt have no qualms about setting an ambush, especially since Da’Roneh are universally known to be hostile. Cormorant, Britta, and Kuwaia are less willing to use such tactics. Cormorante and Britta decide to remain central and somewhat in view of the incoming party so that their initial reaction will determine if the others launch projectiles from hiding. Kuwaia will wait in between the position of Cormorant and Sprthnt and intends to charge into the fray, if Sprthnt fires.

As the raiding party reaches the foot of the hill, they adjust their gear and ready themselves to move on. Two of the party notice Cormorante and Britta standing off a short distance into the trees and begins quickly chattering to the others, pointing. It is very obvious that these young Da’Roneh full intent to charge the two.

Expecting the reaction, yet giving the opportunity for something different, Siofrita and Sprthnt will fire arrows at their nearest targets. Antapkos will launch a javelin. Cormorante and Kuwaia will run to meet the enemy. Britta will wait to receive them. Cormorante yells, as he runs, though he knows he cannot be understood. “Wrong choice!”

Siofrita will augment her shot with her talent to ionize a target. Sprthnt will accompany his arrow with heat. Antapkos will enhance his athletic skill, as he throws. Cormorante and Kuwaia will enhance their strength. Britta will mystically cause herself to be less noticeable.
