War characters give me a headache

I have the exact opposite opinion. Because my language is not an aglutinant one, things like "spellsword" "warblade" and other "nightspell" cause goofy translation. While "psion" or "theurge" translate nicely into "psion" or "theurge".

It's not just the translations which sound goofy. The originals do too, arguably.

Cleric - Warpriest
Druid - Waranimist
Fighter - Warmaster
Monk - Wardancer
Paladin - Warknight
Ranger - Warstalker
Rogue - Warstriker
Sorcerer - Warweaver
Wizard - Warmage

Then the Warlock and the Warlord will feel right at home!

And then we can exchange War- with other cool prefixes to get a customizable feel! You want a superhero-campaign? Use Power-. You want a more friendly setting? Use Peace-. You want a stone age setting? Use Stone-. The possibilities are INFINITE!

Warlock is from an old pairing of latin words that meant "oath-breaker". Warden is derived from "ward".

A lot of the "warrior" ones, well, I guess but they're more like cousins to it. Maybe if they were, um, war-warrior or war-warrior of darkness or war-warrior skald. If the trend continues as it has been, I expect to see these and other super cool names in 4E.

Even without bums like me nitpicking at this it's still a pretty long list.
