What would you like to see brought back from older editions?

I'll jump on the Domain/landed rules. I'm hoping that the divisions of the game from 1-10, 11-20, 21-30 will include things like that. On the other hand - it is important to have alternative for those who don't want that; its like the wizard in 3.X who doesn't really want a familiar.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned that I miss from 3.X (mostly) is variable AC's for monsters, and targeting specific areas for certain monsters. By variable AC's I mean things like the Bulette (IIRC) had a soft underbelly, so you could attack that and get a much better chance to hit, at risk of being trampled, whereas the carapace over most of the body made it very tough otherwise. Targeting specific areas doesn't refer to called shots, but to things like targeting a beholders eyestalks (which you could do in previous editions), allowing you to take out the Disintegration eye, at the expense of not doing damage to it's hit points.

I agree with essentially everything in this post.

A system of drawbacks, like how non-weapon proficiencies of 2e were both good and bad. Yes, I know about flaws and traits from UA. I like them. I want something similar in the core rules.

Bouncing lightning bolts strikes me as dumb. Has since I first saw them in Baldur's Gate, and seems to only get more absurd in my mind. Arcing lightning bolts that attempt to earth on metal etc? That I could handle, but not bouncing.

We need some kind of reflecting attack though. Its cool. Make the mage calculate the best angle to hit the most badguys

Training costs were in AD&D for just this reason -- it meant the cash that provided the Xp wasn't there just to inflate character power; it actually served a purpose.

Len Lakofka (what's he up to) had a nice variant of this in the Space Gamer.

You can only get up to half of the XP needed to level from your monster killing.

Then, you take your money and pay for training for the next level. It costs the same as the remaining XP you need to level.

That's some expensive training though ;-)

She's a huge, burly woman, just like Conan is a huge, burly man.

Why is this a problem? PCs are supposed to be exceptional.

Few will picture their female PCs with teh proper muscle mass. We'll get descriptions of Red Sonja type hotness instead of female bodybuilder freaky.

And I'm wracking my brain trying to come up with a reason why this is a bad thing.

Nope. Nothing.

It's bad, because soylent green is made of people... Like She-Hulk... And she also looked quite normal... sometimes... I believe so, at least. :p

It's terrible, and I'll tell you why: we don't need descriptions of Red Sonja like hotness.

We need pictures of it.
