Any "martial" system that compares with spellcasting on a 1:1 ratio is effectively going to end up looking like magic anyway. If the concern is that a punch bard is going to beat a punch monk due to magic, then give the monk enough magic to counter play that.

Then it means Monk fails to fufill it's role as a power fantasy of being martial arts class and proves WotC cannot design for non-magical classes, despite such characters being prevalent in fantasy genre the game is supposed to emulate.

honestly, martial powers are fine to work off a 'magic system' if you're(nonspecific you) going to insist on calling AEDU 'magic', but the important thing is that the martial magic system doesn't feel like the same kind of magic system as your actual magic system.
