Ditto. No hard feelings towards Grey, but he's apparently busier than he expected to be, and banking on him to pick up where he left off seems like a bad idea under the circumstances.

Thanks for stepping in, Covaithe, you're a lifesaver. Is there anything I can do to help?

Well, I've written to orsal with a rough plan of how to proceed. I'd like to wait until I hear from him before moving things along here, but I won't wait forever. Patience; we'll make a game out of this eventually!

Ok, I've got the green light from orsal. The game is on!

First, the obligatory "how I DM" post. I will do my best to post in this thread at least once every day. It might only be "Sorry guys, I'm too dumb to DM tonight", or "Waiting on a response from XXX", but you won't generally go 48 hours without hearing from me. Of course, there will be days when I'm away from computers and can't post, and I'll try to let you know about those in advance. One final caveat regarding my posting: my wife and I are expecting our first child in about 8 weeks, so it's entirely possible that I'll disappear without notice for a few days at some point. When that happens, all bets are off, and I'll have to re-evaluate my frequency of posting after that, since I have no real idea what to expect. :D But even if I slow down at that point, possibly a lot, I promise I won't disappear completely.

I don't necessarily expect the same posting frequency from you all, though if you are going to be unable to post for more than a few days, I'd appreciate if you could let me know. I won't specify a specific time limit for how long I'll wait (it will depend on the circumstances in game at the time and the pace of the game), but if I don't hear from you for a while, sooner or later I'll NPC your character to keep things moving. If it's a really long while, you might wake up outside the Red Dragon Inn with a lump on your head and no memory of how you got there. Possibly without pants.

I expect you to link to your rolls in Invisible Castle. I won't check them often, but I will sometimes. I'll link to the vast majority of the rolls I make, too. I'll usually roll reactive rolls for you (initiative, saves, spot and listen checks, and so forth) just to keep things moving, but I prefer that you make rolls for voluntary actions yourself.

About sblocks. Some DMs in LEW get terribly annoyed if you read the contents of sblocks that aren't directed at you, and I've even heard of experience being docked for players reading the wrong thing. That's not me; life's too short and I don't care that much. If I want something to be private that badly, I'll email you or something. I do expect that if you read sblocks that aren't addressed to you, you'll be careful about keeping player knowledge and character knowledge separate.

Finally, I will make mistakes interpreting the rules from time to time. If you spot one, please do point it out, and we'll work out what to do about it.

Next: a long-awaited IC post!

It seems like an eternity has passed since you rode out of Orussus with Regis Hilamar. Can it really have been only yesterday morning? And since then, so much has happened. You travelled hundreds of miles in the blink of an eye with a powerful spell. You were given a quest for a mysterious artifact, come to light after hundreds of years. You have been given control of an unbelievable sum of money, albeit limited control. Horses, fine clothes, magical tools; all these and more have been placed at your disposal. And now, at last, as the pale light of dawn rises over the rubble of Medibaria-that-was, it is your turn to make your mark on these larger than life events. You feel unaccountably small as you ride past the broken towers and cracked tombs, but before long, you are well away on the road to the north. The daylight is fine and clear, if perhaps a little on the chill side.

Phelan Goldmoon, the jovial half-elven cleric of Halina hired to keep you all healthy, exlaims with delight. "My, what a pleasant day! The goddess surely smiles on us. Now tell me, good companions, should trouble arise on our journey, where would you like me to ride? I confess I have only a little skill with Halina's weapon, he brandishes a sickle, which indeed looks new and relatively unused. Besides that, the man is wearing a serviceable chain shirt and carries a wooden shield slung on his back over a light crossbow. "But I'll do what I can."

[sblock=ooc]In other words, what was that marching order again? A watch list would be good, too.

One more bookkeeping thing: from what was purchased with the 500g from your employer, I have the following:

80g - Courtier's outfit and jewelry: Who has this?
248g - 2 everburning hooded lanterns. I think Octavio spoke up for one. Who is carrying the other?
150g - 3 potions of CLW. Octavio spoke for one, who has the others?
Map of the route - I think William Kendric has this, yes?
Letter of credit for 100,000g - Does Thargon have this? Not sure.

That leaves 22g unaccounted for by my math, which you can spend now if you like.

Thanks for your patience in all of this, guys!

What I can figure out so far, we have two marching orders. One above ground, one below.

Above(light)
Will
Tank
Phelan
Octavio

Below(dark)
Tank
Will
Phelan
Octavio

I know I'm missing people, who wants to go where?

Suggested order for the watch:
Will
Tank
Phelan
Octavio

Again, I'm missing people. If I didn't call out your name, pick a spot.

ooc: Just for completeness, the missing characters from your list are Thargon, Dwarf Ftr 1, and Jinx, human kineticist 1. And, btw, I should probably emphasize that what I said about rules mistakes being inevitable? That goes double for psionics, where I'll be learning as I go.

(Ooc:Sorry for the lateness, the Courtier's Clothes and Jewelery are mine, and yes I have the map. I have no problem with position or watch order)

So how does this look?

Marching order, light:
Will
Thargon
Tank
Jinx
Phelan
Octavio

Marching order, dark:
Thargon
Tank
Will
Jinx
Phelan
Octavio

And three watches of four hours each:
Watch #1: Will, Phelan
Watch #2: Tank, Octavio
Watch #3: Thargon, Jinx

This way each shift has someone with low-light or darkvision. And I put Jinx on the last shift because I assume he needs 8 hours sleep for his psionics thingys.

You and me both. WTF is a kineticist?

[sblock=Psionics] Sorry to butt in, but I've always been a big fan of Psionics as both a DM and player...

First off make sure the player and you understand the golden rule of psionics. You cannot spend more power points than your manifester level, unless you Overchannel which requiores a feat and typically deals damage to you. So many people think Psionics are broken because a player does not understand this and thinks he can do umpteen d6 of damage at 1st level.

A Kineticist is basically the Psionic version of an evoker, all Psions must choose a discipline to which they belong and they are then able to take powers when they level up from either there own disciplines list or from a larger general pool. A Psions discipline also effects what class skills he has access to.

However, unlike a specialist wizard it is possible for a Psion to learn powers from other disiplines, it just usually requires them to take the Expanded Knowledge feat to do so; for example, many third level psions will take a feat togain Astral Construct as a power since it basically amount to a whole summon monster line through augmentation.

Just wait until you see Energy Missile, a Kineticist power which begins at 2nd level (all powers scale so it effectively could be used with seventeen power points and be the equivilent of a ninth level spell doing 17d6 damage or 17d6+17 if he uses fire or cold) can effect up to five targets within 15ft. of one another and allows you to choose to ignore allies since its targeted not an area effect.

A Psion will likely appear to be significantly stronger than a wizard, which is the nearest comparison, up until tenth level or so when the Wizards sheer untility pulls him ahead. I've always been surprised they were allowed in LEW, I love them, but without other supplements its tough for other classes to compete.[/sblock]
