Level Up (A5E) [+] What features should a "Advanced 5E" have?

  • Prestige Classes
  • Crafting system, expanded use for tool proficiency checks, detailed d100 tables, including:
  • Detailed costing tables for magic items, and crafting of such
  • Revamp Feats, make them tiered, (similar to 3.5, ie. Dodge>mobility>Spring Attack, etc)
  • More Feats

Erm....isn't....isn't that just 3.x/PF??

To offer something really different on the market, I'd say go full 2E Skills & Powers, make a point buy system and rip out the Class and Feats structure entirely.

I'd love something like that, though with a lot more design scrutiny and playtesting than there was for the 2e offerings, as some of the things you could achieve via Skills & Powers and its companion volume, Spells & Magic, are bonkers (mainly Spells & Magic....I mean, you think 3.x Clerics are monsters....see what terrors you can create with the Priest options in Spells & Magic haha). :p

A less predictable initiative system.

A replacement for racial ASIs. If not outright making them floating, at least some different options for each race that doesn't pigeonhole them into certain classes as much.

Tweaks to all the classes (and many subclasses) to balance them better.

Rebalancing spells to make some slightly less good, and many much less awful. That includes removing concentration from some (many?) spells.

Some new attribute generation methods that let people play the class they want, but with more variability in the other 4 stats.

What parts of D&D would your "friend" want to keep in a theoretical update? What aspects of the game, for them, would make it not D&D anymore if removed? Since I assume this is a serious question, this is an important question to answer.

A few more high or superheroic fantasy archetypes as classes

  1. A full on shapeshifer class with the ability to mix and match shifted body parts. A PC could have bear claws, sharks gills, a tortoise shell, and bat wings
    1. an animal shape subclass
    2. a dragon shape subclass
    3. an elemental shape subclass.
  2. A "superhuman" class of "your race just better". The class would have upgrades of your racial traits and biological functions. Think Warhammer Space 40K Marines or Fantasy Battle's Grail Knights but done with alchemy and arcana instead of science or mutation.
    1. The "bunch of arcane rituals made me strong" warrior
    2. The Demigod subclass
    3. The Clockwork Knight subclass
    4. The Half Undead subclass
  3. A fantasy spirit summoning priest
  4. A combat gadgeteer that is more like a martial artificer
Beyond that
  • more class exclusive spells
  • more maneuvers
  • more metamagic
  • more evocations
  • more ki options
  • more hunter options
  • more pantheon and cosmos options
  • MORE FANTASY EXPLORATION OPTIONS AND RULES

Isn't most of the suggestion in this thread?

A lot of it is, certainly. I'm more just curious why one wouldn't just play 3.x/PF if they were seeking those things, rather than trying to make 5e into 3.x/PF. It's not like there's a dearth of material available for the 3.x/PF rulesets that isn't still easy to come by. I mean sure, new and shiny is appealing, but there's just so much STUFF for 3.x/PF...all the stuff many are craving for 5e....which means those seeking it would probably get more from playing 3.x/PF than 5e.

It's not a curiosity born of any desire for conflict mind you. One wants what one wants. If that's all it is, that makes enough sense for me...it's just straight up curiosity. :)

You know what I'd want

Nuetral Good and Chaotic Good Outsiders

We have Angels and Coatls filling out all sides of good and Celestials.
I would love for a definite split of LG, NG, and CG celestials like the devils, daemons, demons have for fiends. I had to create my own CG outsiders. They are fun but they don't work for everyone. I would love LG, NG, and CG to be more defined in the cosmos and then displayed as monsters and subclasses.
