Level Up (A5E) Monster preview thread!

"With no fleshy distractions" I dunno, that lich looks plenty fleshy to me! ;)

Interesting take on becoming a lich--having to lose your name and identity to do so. Also, kind of odd it shoots non-spell lightning. Generally, liches are associated with cold and necrotic energy. Also, shouldn't it know more cantrips at that level?

Does disintegrate automatically affect magic items?

Typo: in the Combat section, you lack a semi-colon between cluster of enemies" and "disintegrate against."

I do like this Lich and the spells and auras give it a nice range of attack options. What was put forward as the Variant Lich entry?

I believe you are suggesting that the lich has an ability called “eldritch aura” that can take on 3 flavors, however it’s not really written that way. It reads like there are 4 distinct auras, and it took me a bit to figure out why I would ever use the first Aura until I read the combat section and realized you meant that as an umbrella ability.

Yeah, the three flavors should probably be not italicized, and the Eldritch Aura should include a line of "the Aura takes one of the following three forms."

The arc lightning made me think of the Emperor using Force Lightning against Vader/Luke and so I’m all for using a Lich to re-enact that scene.

I agree the presentation was weird I had to reread the Eldritch Aura a couple of times to see if it actually did anything except give off light until I realised it was a Header to the 3 coloured auras below.

I had the same initial thought when I first read it. If it wasn't for the eldritch aura itself not really even doing something trivial I probably would have assumed the specific auras were different abilities & wondered why the aura did something so trivial.

Another possible oddity, there is no duration given on the blur action, so technically there is no reason for a lich to ever be without it.
Which I think would be awesome for Liches, especially in dark crypts where they are barely seen, just a flickering blur in the corner of the eye, building horror, spreading confusion before they step in with dimension door and hit with paralysing touch

Yep, these are all first pass layout drafts. Those colours will be indented..
