D&D 5E What do you want and not want out of future settings added to 5E?

That's why I've bought 3rd party material such as Midgard from Kobold Press. Picked up two Southland books at 50% off from my FLGS (at the time I didn't realize they were from a recent Kickstarter).

Off topic, but jeez, i backed that kickstarter on day 1 and still haven't recieved my books (it's a shipping problem, not anything Kobold Press is responsible for), but the books are already on clearance sale at other people's game shops??? :cry:

I'mma just quote myself from these very thread just to emphasize how much I want it.
I want to see new settings with new ideas from the ground up built with its own logic and not just "generic D&D setting in another genre/style".

New World. New Nations. New Threats. New Gods. New Alliances. New Magic. New Conflicts. New Dungeons. New Dragons.

For a community that loves wonder, it seems so hesitant to swerve people with new things and outcomes.

Who needs prefabricated settings? Give me toolboxes for building worlds and filling out blank hex maps. Make my life easier the way Beyond the Wall and Worlds Without Number did. Then maybe WotC can have some of my money.

How about a setting defined by its Martial Tradition for a change, instead of yet more spells and schools of magic? We just got a whole setting dedicated to spell casters (Strixhaven) how about one dedicated to heroes of blade and might? The Wizard's spell list is big enough.
Making new abilities that are both variants of "I hit it with my sword" and also interesting, fun, and meaningful additions to the game is hard!

Cranking out another 20 to 30 spells that seem like they could be useful in some situations is easy.

It's not that people are super obsessed with spellcasters. It's just what produces the most content for the least effort.

Yeah but DnD, PF and Runequest all have the same problem with spells - spell spam!
There are simply too many that are the same and could easily be shortened in a similar way to Savage Worlds.

The reason you see a clamor for Dark Sun 5E or Planescape 5e or Spelljammer 5E is that those settings were very different than ForgottenRealms/GreyHawk/Dragonlance, in tone and in tools. I want to see a setting that pushes D&D to tell new stories beyond mercenaries of Middle Earth. Give me a new survival setting of savagery, super-science, and sorcery! We need some fresh ideas.
