D&D 5E why has none of the wisdom races caught on?

So, this has all gotten me thinking about Wisdom as the base stat for perception. Wouldn't Charisma be a better fit? Charisma is in part projection and in part perception. Having a character spot "opportunities" (Perception) faster than they can decide if availing themselves of that opportunity (Wisdom) is a trope. That seems to fit the two alternate approaches on using empathy ... using it to sympathize (diplomacy), versus using it to antagonize (intimidate).

Darn: The more I think about it, the more I get bonuses to perception from multiple statistics: Knowing what to look for (Int or Wis), being patient (Con or Wis). Being able to process rapidly unfolding events in real time (Dex). Also, where to place "comprehending what was perceived"? Is that Int (deducing what a perception means), Wis (having seen a similar situation before), or Cha (understanding emotionally what was seen: Empathy)?

Wisdom is an easy stat to axe because everything it does easily fits into other abilities. This just isn't as true of any other stat.

Perception being a use of aa ability/skill rather than it's own skill is an idea, and I can come up with ways to apply it to almost any skill. Searching for traps might actually be a stealth check, because you're looking for where things would be hidden consciously. Knowing how to hide things would clearly help.

Although a general "alertness" roll still needs to exist for countering stealth.

The same way half-elves are a Cha race. While you can say that half-elves are born diplomats, you can say that muls are really zen about the “child of two worlds” thing.
I do not see why that would be a thing also giant bald dude is kinda already a race in several settings.

do not think about the stats too hard as everything past con never really made sense.

if you ax it you just generate more problems of what do you get the rest of the wisdom classes running on instead there are honestly more pressing issues.

odd question what would a race with the favourite classes of cleric, monk and druid/ranger even be like?
My first impression would be some sort of dryad/ent, nature generally has themes of life and/or healing whereas trees are often associated with sturdiness which would fit for monk side of things

Unless you mean in terms of existing DnD species then I don’t know much on that front

For ranger/druid, it was usually races associated with faerie or nature or at least not city-building: centaurs, fauns, tree-people, stuff like that. Similar to the races for barbarian but not strong usually meant ranger.
