D&D 5E Is Tasha's Broken?

Bilbo was never a thief. He was picked to play the role of burglar because hobbits are very quiet. Bilbo had never stolen a thing in his life and certainly had no skill in lockpicking. Hobbits like to live in small lawful communities, farm, drink, eat and smoke pipeweed. A few "Tookish" ones might go off and have adventures, which is not something anyone should approve of. 😊
I stand corrected. You're not an optimizer ~spits on ground and stomps on it~ if you play a halfling because Misty Mountain dwarves are racists.

Bilbo was literally brought along to break in to someone's home! He stole a very precious ring from an innocent hermit! He was absolutely a thief!
He was brought in by the real home owners to help take back their treasure from the squatter who drove them out. ;)

He did however steal the Arkenstone from the real home owners when he went inside.

He cheated at riddling, which is roguish but not particularly thievish. 😉

Frodo never did any of that sort of thing, and Sam wouldn't have approved at all. Merry is a fighter, possibly ranger and Pippin a fighter.

One hobbit "thief" should not taint the entire race! 🤣

Bilbo was fully aware that he had the ring in his possession and that the rightful owner wanted it back. He may not have realized what he had initially, but that's no excuse.

Frodo and Sam were obviously good at stealth. Sam obviously used sneak attack on Shelob. The very end? Frodo used sleight of hand to give Gollum the ring. Then he used his expertise in deception to convince everyone he was a victim.

Roguish behavior at it's best! ;)

Floating ASIs feel really cowardly. Like the player is terrified of losing in a game without game overs.
Mod Note:

Slinging insults on the internet behind a veil of anonymity is MORE cowardly. It’s also a violation of ENWorld’s rules about civility.

Here’s hoping you’re better than that going forward.

Worst. Post. Ever.

The other day I posted that sometimes when people are upset about the changes, their tears are part of the enjoyment. I was being facetious, but…uh…yeah. Maybe not completely.
Mod Note:

When you think someone’s being a jackass, report it, don’t escalate it. Thanks.

Ever read the Redwall books? How boring would the story be if wildcats were realistically stronger than mice. Martin the Warrior would have died on the first page.

Same with a Redwall-based RPG. (Which exists but I haven’t played it.)

Sometimes story, and playability, trumps realism.
Sometimes. I don't believe this should be one of those times.

Player options are absolutely one of the times where fun should be prioritized over realism. A Lizardfolk's Bite attack lets them deal as much damage as a shortsword and quickly, nonmagically regenerate by biting an enemy and eating a small part of their body. That's not realistic at all, but it's fun as hell and makes for a great racial ability.
