In my DAD Idea was The Baron right in choosing the lowest level candidate to be the garrisons commander, because she's a friend and he knows she that she is honest, trustworthy, reliable, loyal and dependable? but he doesn't know if any of the other 6 candidates are, after all resumes can be forged or the person that gave it could have lied or been blackmailed or been charmed, her being a friend has nothing to do with it

The 7 candidates are, now were, 2 8th level Fighters, 1 4th level Ranger(the 1 that got the job), 1 7th level Fighter, 1 7th level Cavalier, 1 7th level Barbarian and 1 8th level Ranger

Which creates the best political situation for the baron? Which improves his standing and influence? Which canidates put their loyalty to the baron first? Is this a combat garrison, or something more like a color guard?

Is the commander expected to be some kind of combat monster? If not, loyalty and competence matter far more than level.

The only problem is if the other candidates know that the new commander was promoted because of the nepotism. Some of them may have an angle that leads to sabotage on the new commander or going over his head to get the position.

She wasn't made the commander because she's the barons friend, although the other candidates don't know that, she was made the commander because, like I said earlier, The Baron knows she that she is honest, trustworthy, reliable, loyal and dependable but he doesn't know if any of the other 6 candidates are

I also said earlier that resumes can be forged or the person that gave it, or them, could have lied or been blackmailed or been charmed, her being a friend has nothing to do with it, but again the other candidates don't know that

Look at it this way would you rather have a garrison commander someone of fairly high level whose resume says is honest, trustworthy, reliable, loyal and dependable but the resume may be fake or lying or be full of lies or a garrison commander of low level that you know is honest, trustworthy, reliable, loyal and dependable

The Baron is like a company CEO in that he wants to hire the best people for the position and things like honesty and loyalty may be treated on the same level as things like competence in that job position. If the Baron thinks that this person can do the job and happens to be honest and loyal and all the rest, then fine.

The problem is that the others may feel that person is not qualified and more so if they find out the Baron and him are friends. The workers lose respect until the new commander can earn it back.
