Oh, and we had the deeply cringeworthy "you guys are the real heroes for coming to a movie theater" bit before the opening. So dumb.

Get people to go to theaters by making films like Avatar 2 and Top Gun 2 that are best seen that way, not by praising our heroism.

After that bit, my son leaned over to me and said "I really hope their acting is better in the movie, that was painful!" And, yeah, it looked like they filmed the scene with someone holding a gun on them.

Fortunately, we both loved the actual movie.

Yeah the whole thing ran much more like Dungeon World than D&D 5E, that's for sure. And honestly I don't think D&D would be harmed much by loosening up a lot of that stuff.

I might test out a HD pool for druids, like 2 HD per level (with a cap of your level) or some such. By mid level a druid could do a few big transformations or a large number of smaller ones. Could mimic the movie well and be fun for a druid player without being over powered.

I did have to squelch my inner DM when the party that had a barbarian that took out an entire squad of waterdeep's finest and a sorcerer who can cast 7th level spells were running from two displacer beasts. But once I did that i was a great scene.
He actually can't cast them, that seems to be an effect of his wild magic. According to his stat block, he has access to a few 5th level spells as his highest, and that's really only after he "gets over his mental issues"

Simon is said to be a descendant of Elminster, but the guy in the vision was his great-great-grandfather. Some people still talk to their great-great-grandfathers. It's not far enough back that I would refer to my great-great-grandfather as someone that I was descended from.
The thing about my great grandfathers is I have no idea what they looked like. My knowledge of my ancestors only goes back to grandparents, and a couple of those only from grainy old photos.
