This summer, a new free streaming channel will be launched by eOne, the entertainment company owned by Hasbro. It will be ad-supported and available on multiple (as yet unspecified) platforms and feature a mix of animation, third party influencers, and actual play shows.

The old 1980s Dungeons & Dragons cartoon will be available, along with shows like:
  • Encounter Party is based on an existing podcast and set in the Forgotten Realms.
  • Faster, Purple Worm! Kill! Kill! is a comedy game stream in each episode of which a party of 1st level characters march to their deaths against deadly monsters.
  • Heroes's Feast is a cooking/talk show.

Likewise, Heroes Feast sounds like it could be pretty cool. A fantasy-themed cooking show is up my alley.

I do wonder how it will have enough content to justify an entire channel dedicated to D&D stuff. Maybe if they can pull from their back-catalog of streamed events on Twitch and YouTube.
A few games will fill up 24 hours, particularly with reruns.

So who among us has been granted a time slot? Surely Enworlders, a collection of the greatest D&D minds ever assembled; would naturally be tapped for such an enterprise!
We're still negotiating the salary.

We all agree that each of my post's usually worth between 3k to 5k, but the details are still up in the air.

So I guess they're going to be coming after streamers and independent content creators after all?
Man, I hate what this hobby has turned into.
"Competing with" is hardly "coming after." There's relatively little barrier to entry to throwing up one's actual play onto a podcast feed and even lower barriers on YouTube and Twitch.

If anything, more publicity for this format will likely mean more people doing it.

I would guess that they're going to buy up the back catalog of some actual play content and run a lot of reruns of the cartoon. If they somehow have the rights to the 2000 movie, I'd expect that to be on overnight every night.

Sounds like Mtv when they were good and played videos.
Every specialized channel goes that way eventually.

"Yes, yes, I know that we're X Television, but we've hit the viewership cap of just showing X and we've been told to show growth -- or else. So I'm thinking, we give four hours a night to pundits yelling about politics, eight hours on Saturday and Sunday to professional wrestling and fill the rest with the most exploitive reality shows we can come up with."
