I would say WotC has about the appropriate level for an all ages going for the past decade.
I'd say that D&D should have different properties with diferent tones and moods and levels of "maturity." Someone upthread referenced comic books, and that is a good analogy: there are lots of Marvel books, all in the same universe, that have very different styles, tones and "ratings." D&D can have that, too.

The absolute refusal to allow D&D to acknowledge that humans are sexual sometimes is just weird, to be honest.

Pretty much every big entertainment company has people pulling customer/fan/media comments. It would be weird if WotC didn't.

Back in the day, there was literally an industry of "clipping services" that would cut out every reference to a company or product from magazines and newspapers and send them to companies regularly.
You're taking me back to the days of my summer jobs as library aide, getting paid to read newspapers and clip articles for the vertical file.

Human sexuality is one of the most fundamental, ubiquitous themes of our species, and the world's puritanical eras have really turned something beautiful into a spiral of hate and shame for so many people.

That type of content has to be covered by third parties, for specific audiences, because it is so polarizing.

BG3 is just one example of a 3rd party game that throws a bone to an audience that enjoys those stories. But Wizards, being the core designer, can't really afford to embrace that level of "maturity". They likely feel the need to avoid that controversy (they are already walking on eggshells because of their prior mistakes in assuming what will be acceptable.)
