@TaranTheWanderer

Okay, I am literally thinking this through as I am typing this out.

First, I thought about topple, and that it might slow things down, when I made the character. If there was any way I could avoid it, I would have. But ... there just wasn't. Seeing it play out has confirmed that yes, it is annoying it PbP like I feared it might be. And I appreciate that you're putting thought into this.

Next thought- I am perfectly willing to substitute topple for a different weapon mastery. Up to you. I am not even going to look - although, um, nick probably wouldn't work. Off the top of my head, sap (like a mace) might make sense. Personally, I'd want graze because it's easy to use in PbP and easy to narrate, but that might not make sense.

As for the options-

Don't think that AC+5 works, because topple is about con saves; most monsters have high cons even if their ac isn't that great. Especially at our levels.

If we use the attack roll against their passive con score, it works against the monster because attacks that hit are biased to high rolls.

....so, if we continue to use topple, I would recommend posting the con score. Every time I hit, if you don't mind, I will also use coyotecode roller to roll the monster's save and post it in the OOC part of the attack and determine if it is knocked prone. I am a little uncomfortable with that only because there may be other issues going on that might cause it not to go prone that you know about (or at your discretion), but it should work 90%+ of the time.

Anyway, those are my off-the-cuff thoughts.

I agree that clearing-by-5 also doesn't create verisimilitude. You might think you are more likely to topple the ones in clunky plate armor than those wearing a leather jerkin.
The funny thing about THAT is what you describe sounds like a DEX Save. But it is a CON save, and most high AC monsters have high CONS anyhow.

I don't disagree with you, but the problem you point out is already inherent in the mastery!

Snarf's solution is best, IMO. Just post Con Save modifiers and have Snarf roll the saves, so they appear at the same time
as the attack.

I've recently been shifting some of my DM style when it comes to PBP. I have NEVER liked to roll checks for my players, but I have always understood that it would be better if I did, when someone declares an action that I would prefer a skill check be a part of. Rather than asking for it, I have just started looking up their sheet and rolling it myself.

@Steve Gorak
Your team is currently traveling in the market, if you cast a spell - including silent image, you will attract zombies. You needed to cast it BEFORE you headed out to the market.

Also, your Detect Magic is done.

@FitzTheRuke The religion check in my last post is purely to get a hint on how to remove the gem - which is a holy symbol of your god. If you fail the check, it doesn't mean its immovable - it just means you get no hint. You just need to tell me what you are doing to remove it.

@Snarf Zagyg Feel free to also make a religion check since you are helping Stratus with the gem.

History, arcana or perception will give different information.

Yep, got that. Only casting non verbal spells atm. Message and possibly disguise self. I’m proposing to cast silent image from the potions shop.
Cheers,
