Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

One of my complaints with some modern Trek starship battles is that they sometimes overdo it and fill the screen with too much stuff. Discovery S2 finale vs. Control, or this battle with the Gorn fighters, there's just too much going on. Compare that to the duel with the Shepherds in "Children of the Comet", which was well choreographed and understandable.

Anyway, still liked Hegemony's character work.

It's interesting seeing both T'Pring and Korby get a character reevaluation in SNW. Like, I like this Korby. Sure, a cute Irishman will do that, but the character worked for me. And the indignity of being turned into an English Bulldog. I also was so amused by how much Trelane was messing with him.

This week's episode felt like some classic Trek in a lot of ways, breaking the rules and sneaking into what will presumably go on to be called the Neutral Zone to save a friend. The reveal of the threat on the planet is well telegraphed, and we get some more character development for Ortegas back on the ship.

Looking forward to seeing hybrid Captain Love-interest, will Pike still be into her?

There's that, plus humans had gotten even more uppity, in the TNG days, so they had to be cut down a peg.

Well, there are a couple of things that suggest that Trelane isn't a Q.

1) We have seen a few other Q. They don't generally use personal names. Amanda Rogers grew up as a human, and didn't know she was Q. And Quinn took that name specifically to rebel against the Q-Continuum and end his own existence.

2) Trelane specifically refers to a homeworld, while we have been told that the Q exist in the Q-Continuum, an extra-dimensional space.

If Trelane is a Q, he may be another example of Q coming into being under unusual circumstances, like Amanda Rogers, or the Q created during the Q civil war that followed Quinn's death...

Well he was, after all, rather young and in a rebellious stage. Taking a name and CosPlaying as human would fit, so claiming a planet of origin is all part of the vibe.

The most obvious clue to Trelane being a Q for me was the finger-snapping. That’s such a classic Q move.

Also, would anyone else like it if the show named Strange New Worlds actually visited strange new worlds? It feels like they mostly just hang around in Federation space or places just across the border. They have yet to really “go where no one has gone before.”

You have to be kinda careful about how much unproven lying you attribute to a character.

I mean, I could just as easily say that he got fed up, and created an illusion of a parent (and their Q-voice) to make a dramatic exit! But we have no specific reason to think that happened.

We have no specific reason to doubt his statements about his origin, so we should take that as being largely accurate until given a reason on-screen.

Perhaps the home world to which he was referring is the original home world of the Q, where they evolved until an apotheosis point and transfer to the Continuum. That's not without precedent in Trek.

I always thought the Q ascended like the Organians which would mean that they had a homeworld somewhere. I'm not sure it's ever stated before SNW, so I might be mixing it with other random Trek lore or even fan theories.

Perhaps, but the writers have obviously gone to great pains to make us believe he's a Q.
