The Untamed Wilds: Caravan Campaign

Sannit greets the blacksmith. "Out in the wilds we passed a group of friendly maldrog and despite our lack of meaningful conversation, we understood that they were looking for metal like this." He pulls out the white metal and shows it to him. "What can you tell us about it?"

Bolo stays outside with Turtle, playing with him to show the townspeople his amusing side.

Merin says, "We've been thinking that since we occasionally find bits and pieces of metal in our travels, that as we collect it, we might bring the best bits to you, and see about using it to reinforce our armor. This will be a slow process, since finding this stuff happens randomly and sporadically under the best of conditions. But for instance, how many ingots of a given metal type would you need to say, make a set of arm guards?"

The smith takes the hard white metal ingot and rolls it around in his hand then taps it on his anvil several times listening to the sound.
This is indeed the metal the Mhytre's were seeking and I can tell you why. This is called Titanium. When alloyed to iron it makes an extremely hard steel. This one ingot would be enough for me to repurpose a knife or carving axe if I had the right heating material.
He pauses and searches around by his wood bin. He returns with two small rocks. One is shiny black. The other is a dull, deep mahogany, almost black.
The Mhytre metallurgist are very tight with their secrets but I know a thing or two. The wood normally used for smithing, even hardwood, is not enough to forge better quality steel. This shiny black rock is called Carbone. The other is called Pietrazulfo. They are found in mountain areas but I do not know where. I need these to forge alloys.

The Smith rubs his bald head.
Obviously I need mostly iron and lots of it. I can reforge a weapon into a piece of armor of relative size, in the mean time.

I know there is an iron mine near Boga City, but it must not provide enough to trade. This is still a learning process for us. Apparently the Mhytre are a bit ahead in the processing. They also seem to have a knack for finding where to mine the metals, but I think all they do is look for the stuff.

I am more than happy to work with what you can provide, but like I told Sannit, what I really need even more than the ore is the Carbone or the Pietrazulfo. I will buy or trade for any and all of it you might find
.

OOC: Children who adapt to change much more quickly than adults begin to approach and touch Turtle, who tolerates all well. The children soon learn that the bear like to run and play just as much as they do and find his company as enjoyable as they would any dog. They are surprised when Turtle shows more talent for hide-n-seek than any pet they have previously encountered. Bolo enjoys watching the bear play.

Sannit asks of the blacksmith, "Do you have smaller pieces of these metals so we can compare them if we find them out in the wilds?"

OOC: obviously he wants the metals for conduits, but doesn't want to share too much.

Bolo and Turtle: ;)

Here. You can take these two small pieces, if it will help. I could use cart loads of the stuff.
GM: This is the second thing I was waiting for regarding the Blacksmith. Everyone receives 2 XP.

Is there any other business regarding the Smith?

Merin suggests, "I think we should trade all of the softer metals we have, since they are better suited to making mugs, plates, and tableware, than they are for making armor. But it must be a group decision, since we all shared in the searching and finding. What say you Sannit? Bolo? Sheldon? Indigo? Tor? Saemund?"

"Agreed. We should transfer anything not useful to store credit of some kind."
GM: NOTE: Hold off on trading anything but the tin and iron. I am still working on the charts for its value and usefulness. I have finish the algorithm for availability. Tin, as it turns out, is detrimental for a Bender to carry. Once this was determined, all Clams are now carried by the pack animals, since the base coin is made from tin.

The Smith looks at the collection of metal ingots offered. He takes the soft white metal and rolls it around in his hand before taping it on his anvil.
This is zinc. While I cannot use it, I understand the Herbalist can make some use of it in a healing brew. You should take the stones to her. The tin I can use at face value since an ingot is often used in place of a Clam. Any iron you find, I will gladly credit The current value is 4 clams per ingot weight.

I was wanting to see the Herbalist anyway. What say we all go to see what we may learn of these stones?

You must be the Southroad Seekers. I have not met all of you. I am called Maeli. How may I be of service today?

The Herbalist is a middle aged Ansylin woman with wisdom in her eyes and kindness in her gaze, despite the wrinkles on her face and a scar on the left of her mouth preventing her from smiling well.

San-Bolo greet Maeli and show her the collection of stones and ores they have collected.

Bolo asks, "How long would it take to fashion the smaller stones into jewelry?"

OOC: if we combined metals in jewelry, like an amulet that has silver and copper plus a stone, would we get the benefit of all three

GM: Yes. Yes you would. Good thinking.
