The Untamed Wilds: Caravan Campaign

Day 45: Making Plans, Day 10, Part 5

Merin asks Myth...
Did you see any pairs standing around?
Myth cocks his head in lack of understanding. Merin then simplifies his phraseology since the cat is still learning. It takes a few tries to get him to understand. Amazingly, Myth demonstrates an ability to count. He walks in a circle once looking up at Merin. He then walks the circle again stopping at 4 distinct spots patting the damp ground with his paw at each. Turtle looks on with interest at Myth's demonstration.

Tellerian said:
Did you see any lone people, especially female?
Once again it takes a few tries for Merin to convey his desire. Myth walks the same circle tapping the same locations then looks of a Merin confused. As Merin tries to think of a way to explain the difference between alone and pairs, Sheldon who is facing the cook fire, stops him, gesturing for everyone to look.

A pair of sentries from the southwest, approaches the fire and begins speaking with the woman, there. The words cannot be heard, but the sentries shake their heads, no, and then the man points emphatically to the south. The wild hair woman the yells at them, pointing to the south.

"Geudeul-eul chaj-ala"

The man takes a hunk of food from the spit, handing some to his partner as the two then depart.

Merin chooses to ignore his previous question,
Tellerian said:
Did anyone notice you?
Myth seems to understand this question and indicates the pair walking away from the fire. Merin for assurity then asks,
"They saw you?"

Myth nods yes like a person would. Merin nods, then adds,

"Did any others see you?"

Myth shakes his head no like a person would. Turtle, fascinated by the exchange, imitates nodding and shaking his head.

After this, there is a shrill whistle from the direction of the camp. A second woman is walking down make-shift stairs from a dwelling in the haunted tree. She puts her hand to her mouth and the shrill whistle repeats. She then engages the other woman at the fire in an apparent conversation. The conversation is animated and aggravated. The two women do not appear angry with one another but angry at the same thing.

During the conversation, a pair of sentries arrive from the north and a third woman comes down from the tree.

Sheldon, alarmed, whispers,
"I think they are calling in the other sentries to question them. They will be expecting a pair from this direction."

Indigo adds,
"We may be able to use this, but we would have to act fast. Sheldon and I or Sannit and Bolo could walk directly toward them, playing the part of the sentries. It is dangerous and abrupt. The other option I see is to hide and wait for the search to begin in this direction for the missing sentries."

Sannit says, "We'll go. The rest of you pick your positions and once they figure out who we are, attack."

Bolo looks in the direction of the tree and its defenders, her eyes scouring over the hanging bones. "Remember, kill the Way users first if you can."

Sannit pulls out the scavenged armor and weapons.He tells Bolo,"We'll act casual, like nothing is wrong, and lets walk slow to give the others more time to sneak closer."

Assuming we have suitable disguises from the sentries, San-Bolo will quickly don them and prepare to be bait. Bolo pets Turtle on the head and whispers, "Follow along behind us, but do not be seen. Be small and quiet, but when you see us start to fight, give me a big bear roar."

Turtle nods his head. He can do that.

Sheldon nods,
"As you wish. Indigo and I will go back to the right flank and come in from that direction."

Bolo looks in the direction of the tree and its defenders, her eyes scouring over the hanging bones.

Indigo agrees,
"A good point. With Sheldon and I coming in from behind them. I plan to rush the witches and hit them first."

GM: Sannit's natural appearance is very suitable for an Evipau. The difference in skin tone will not be noticed at a distance. Bolo's shortness cannot be changed, but she can walk a little behind Sannit as she, like the females, carries a bow.

[sblock=Interpret]Turtle = 27/100*14 + 450 = 453[/sblock]
GM: Turtle does indeed nod his head.

OOC: GM Note:I will give the others a chance to respond before I move forward.

If San-Bolo are approaching from the front, disguised as the missing sentries, and Sheldon and Indigo are approaching from behind, then it makes sense for Tor and Saemund to come in from one flank (left or right, I don't think it matters) and for Merin and Myth to take the other flank.

Tor wants to attack unseen using bows, and try to take out the benders first; Merin will get close enough to use Force Punch if he can. He too, will try to attack by surprise, from an unseen location. Myth will be with him, waiting on the command to strike.

Tor and Saemund elect to move to their left, keeping a wary eye in case sentries should approach upon them from that direction.

Seeing Merin and Myth coming in their direction, Sheldon and Indigo nod and move farther around the camp so that all four are going at the camp from behind the fire side of the large tree.

Once Sheldon and Indigo are in position, he pings Merin's attention, who then signals Bolo, who then signals Tor.

Sannit and Bolo walk boldly forward, Turtle trailing behind keeping as low as possible. Sheldon ties his hair back to that the blond locks cannot blow around and be seen. He and Indigo also walk boldly forward, hoping also to be sensed as a pair of sentries. All others move forward stealthily.

Saemund elects for a throwing axe in his right hand and his fighting axe in his left. When the engagement begins he will either throw his axe if there is an Evipau within range, or carefully advance on an Evipau until they are withing range then throw the axe.

Saemund elects for a throwing axe in his right hand and his fighting axe in his left. When the engagement begins he will either throw his axe if there is an Evipau within range, or carefully advance on an Evipau until they are withing range then throw the axe.

Moving with Tor to the left flank. Saemund puts himself in a forward vantage point a bit ahead of Tor's chosen bow spot. Everyone is required to move closer to the camp to even be effective with bows, much more so to manipulate way.

As it happens, Tor and Saemund may have more of an advantage to aide the situation than they first expected. As they are getting into position they hear the sounds of sloshing steps coming from behind them. A pair of sentries, as yet unseen, are returning to the village at the beck of the call. They appear to be less than concerned with their surrounding at this proximity and will walk directly up on Tor and Saemund if they continue not to notice them.

Saemund will move behind the nearest tree then ambush the closest Evipua as he walks by. He will attempt to grab it from behind put his hand over its mouth so it can't cry out and slit its throat with his carving axe.

Day 45: Encroaching on the Tree, Day 10.

GM: Since post 636, the following XP has been earned for role-play in posts:
Sannit: 7
Bolo: 7
Turtle: 4
Merin: 7
Tor: 5
Myth: 1
Saemund: 4

Tor and Saemund carefully shift their positions to give more attention to their immediate danger. Sannit and Bolo walk into identifiable range of the fire about 2 paces ahead of the approach of Sheldon and Indigo from the other side, whom they can see. Merin and Myth very carefully draw closer from behind the tree using its massive size for concealment. The third witch, who is standing at the base of the tree is just within Merin's range.

The two closing in on Tor and Saemund are a pace beyond Tor and 2 paces yet from Saemund when the witch at the fire yells:

"ulineum chim-ibjagaissda. geudeul-eul jug-yeo"

Sannit and Bolo are 3 paces from the witch when she realized the danger and yelled. She does not even finish the words before combat is in motion. Turtle is 2 paces behind Bolo. Sheldon and Indigo are 5 paces from the fire on the other side. Merin and Myth are 10 paces from the witch at the foot of the tree.
GM: Combat Sequence: (Reaction + Impetus + luck)
Reaction = Body + Motility + Mind + Knowledge + Wisdom + Commercial + Athletic
Impetus = Essence + Cohesion + Collegiate + Aberrative / Academic / Theologic
Sheldon = 88 + 93 = 181
Tor = 81 + 74 = 155
Merin = 85 + 64 = 149
Indigo = 85 + 65 = 150
Sannit = 71 + 73 = 144
Bolo = 80 + 61 = 141
Saemund = 67 + 82 = 149
Axemen = 62 + 76 = 138
Archers = 69 + 95 = 166
Witches = 68 + 64 = 132

Day 45: Combat at the Tree, Day 10.

It is not really possible to determine what the witches are intending to do, but the one who yelled is focusing on Sannit and Bolo. The second senses Sheldon and Indigo and turns to focus on them, while the third, flinches, and spins around to face Merin.

The archer, who is also facing Sannit and Bolo, starts to draw an arrow. The axeman, reaches for his axes and is focused on Sheldon.

Away from camp, the sentries between Tor and Saemund start to run toward the camp upon hearing the cry.

Far across the village at the edge of her focal range, Bolo can see a pair of sentries approaching, but it will take them some time, yet, to close. Sannit, at the edge of his focal range, can see another pair far behind Sheldon and Indigo, approaching.
