The Untamed Wilds: Caravan Campaign

Day 45: The Aftermath, Day 10, Part 3

Sannit sits down...
"I think after this business is done, we follow your plan, Merin, and hunt some beasts. We need a break from this kind of work, although I'm sure we will find even more evidence of its necessity."
Sheldon nods at Sannit's comment.
"I agree. Maybe we could go north a bit into the grasslands. Perhaps we might come across some cattle. I do not like being in a swamp with my feet constantly wet. I am going to need new boots."

Turtle gives Myth a sympathetic look, and starts walking a perimeter...
GM: Avoiding the main tree with its three dwellings, Turtle makes a cursory pass around the other structures. The smells still remain but he neither sees nor hears any other people. The swamp is not void of its normal fauna and he is momentarily distracted chasing a large dragonfly, before returning to his task.

After augmenting the healing of Merin is finished, Indigo, who has begun to speak more often, adds,
"This seems a defensible spot. Rather than relocate, I think we could wait here for Sannit and Merin to mend, then see what these peoples may have hidden up in this tree."

OOC: GM Note:
I intend to update my hard copies from the Character Records, for changes up to this point.

Day 45: Resting, Day 10, Evening

The day wears on into evening. Sannit and Merin both find respite despite the locale. The food on the pit happens to be a small pig, for which everyone is grateful. The Evipaun that fled from the fight do not return. No other people are seen or heard. The quietude enjoyed by the Seekers is peaceable enough that the regular denizens of the swamp encroach out of curiosity.

Myth starts to perk up as Merin's condition improves. He and Turtle chase some the water foul, but are unable to catch any. Turtle is, however, able to catch a large dragonfly, which he happily eats. Myth crinkles his nose and snorts at the idea.

As darkness starts to settle in, Sannit and Merin both seem none the worse for wear. Sheldon, a bit pleased with himself, returns from a little short distance exploring with a fairly large fish. It is a very strange looking specimen, the likes of which the Seekers have not seen. It is sleek and grey, having no scales and rubbery whiskers at the sides of its mouth. Once the pork is consumed, he cleans the fish and puts it on the spit.

At some point we should search this area and the tree thoroughly. Also Sannit will check for metals, gold, silver, carbone, pietrefulzo, and titanium.

Day 46: Searching the Tree, Day 11, Morning

At some point we should search this area and the tree thoroughly. Also Sannit will check for metals, gold, silver, carbone, pietrefulzo, and titanium.

It rains once again during the night. The sound of it in the swamp a strange new experience for the Seekers. Their rest, however, is undisturbed. Sannit and Merin are both well when they rise.

Strangely enough, collectively, a person can now be detected within one of the structures in the main tree. As no one was detected yesterday, and no one came through the camp last night, it is surmised that perhaps the person was unconscious before.

Sheldon comments,
"I guess we should look into who is up there and investigate the other structures before we decide to tromp around the area looking for collectibles. How do you wish to proceed?"

San-Bolo look at each other and share a smile. Sannit says, "We're fine with someone else taking the lead this time."

Bolo pets Turtle.

Tor surmises that the unconscious person may have been asleep. He suggests,
"The person may be a wounded Evipau that the witches were tending to."

Merin adds,
"It could, also potentially, be a prisoner or a slave (an intended sacrifice) who has awakened from being drugged or mentally impaired with Way."

Tor volunteers to take the lead, making ready with sword and board.

Saemund rests like everyone else. Hearing that Tor decides to take point, Saemund volunteers to accompany him. He thinks,
~The two of them going up the tree with weapons at the ready is sure to give anyone pause.~

Day 46: Searching the Tree, Day 11, Morning

Merin adds,
Tellerian Hawke said:

Indigo who has been visibly scanning the area, interject flatly,
"It could not have been a sleeping person. Divining for life does not work in that manner. We would still have sensed the presence. Perhaps an unconscious person would not be detected. The other possibility is worse in that a person may hide himself."

Saemund
Hearing that Tor decides to take point, Saemund volunteers to accompany him.
Sheldon looks over at Sannit, then says,
"Indigo and I will go next. We should not blindly attempt to alter the area's way until we see what we are dealing with."

There are three structures within the tree. Having the ability to detect the person, the group approaches the correct one directly, ignoring the other two for the time being. Before reaching the structure, banging noises begin to emit from it along with painful sounding moaning.

There is a bound, young, Ansylin man, or perhaps it was once a man. His hands are tied in a manner so that they cannot reach his mouth, nor can he move about the room. The man begins to froth at the mouth and hiss as the room is entered. He struggles as best he can, jabbering mostly nonsense, but what can be understood is that he keeps begging for meat.

Tor frowns.
"He's been driven mad. I think this is the outcome of the effect that Merin was under, if left untreated. I wonder if it can be reversed? Or if healing his mind will only result in a level-headed madman? Your thoughts, my friends?"

Tor says, glancing back at Sheldon and Indigo.
