The Untamed Wilds: Caravan Campaign

Tor frowns.
"He's been driven mad. I think this is the outcome of the effect that Merin was under, if left untreated. I wonder if it can be reversed? Or if healing his mind will only result in a level-headed madman? Your thoughts, my friends?"
Indigo responds,
"It is, indeed, what was done to Merin, but I think that the horrible deed has been repeated upon this one over and over. It is not his mind that needs healing. It is the part of his essence that controls the function of his inner parts (Confluence)."

San-Bolo join the others, leaving Turtle to keep watch.

Sannit scowls at what has become of the Ansylin man. "What reason could they have to do this to a person?"

Bolo squats down to look into the eyes of the man, although she does not get within reach of him. "Perhaps they were feeding on him, using his lifeforce to increase their power."

Turtle sniffs around the trees and waits for the people to come back.

Day 46: Searching the Tree, Day 11, Morning, Part 4

San-Bolo join the others,
Sannit scowls... "What reason could they have to do this to a person?"
Sheldon slides to his left as San-Bolo arrive to allow them access.
"This is a terrible malevolence. I have no remorse at dispatching those witches. They would have become a plague."
Bolo squats...
Kwargrow said:

Indigo moves toward Bolo,
"Perhaps. Sadly, it has ruined him. It explains why we did not perceive him earlier. We cannot heal him. He is too far gone. I see it as a mercy to have Tor and Saemund dispatch him quickly. May he find peace and rest."

Day 46: Searching the Village

The man, or what was once a man, is quickly and mercifully dispatched. Bolo and Indigo confirm that it is safe to touch the body; after which, it is removed.

This particular structure as well as the other 2 in the main tree are all decorated with symbols and script. It bears no similarity to Ansylin in form or structure. It may even be something contrived by the former witches. Additionally, many trinkets and other collectibles are found within the three structures. No other dwellings contain anything of note, but the fallen bodies do.

OOC: Village Items:
38 various Feather Talismans
20 various colored Stones
9 various Metal Ingots
57 various Bone Talismans

Tor offers: "Perhaps they intended to use him as a weapon. In his state, he was probably easy to command with Way. An expendable, fearless soldier that could be loosed upon their enemies. Or perhaps they were in the process of trying to achieve such a goal."

Sheldon nods at the wisdom.
"That makes sense. Disturbingly wrong, but it makes sense."

He pauses, running his left hand through his hair, perplexed.
"That brings up a particular question. Lyndha sensed this activity. We have been traveling for 10 days. How powerful must she be to detect activity at this range?"

Merin raises his left eyebrow at the thought. "She is truly a master of her art, that much is certain. She's had all the long years of her life to practice and perfect her skills. I dare say she may be QUITE powerful, to be able to use her gifts at this distance. Which brings about another concern: if Asylum continues to be a problem, she will probably require protection. I feel that her divination powers may be seen as a threat by the guilds; if they are familiar with Giodavi, then they must be familiar with his wife, as well. She is as much a target as he is, if not more so. At the very least, we should warn her."

Tor nods quickly in agreement.

As the searching for metals and minerals begins, both Tor and Merin will assist as well.

Day 46: Searching the Village, Day 11, Midday, Part 2

Once the structures have been thoroughly searched and the items collected, Sheldon assist Sannit in searching for metals, carbone, and pietrazulfo.

GM: Detect Metals:
Range = Cohesion + Will + Theologic
Effectiveness = Essence + Mind + Knowledge + Cohesion + Will + Wisdom +
Collegiate + Theologic +...
Sheldon = 23 paces, 64%
Sannit = 13 strides, 47%
Tor = 14 paces, 48%
Merin = 16 paces, 53%
Total = 60.5 paces, 212%
Time = rarity * days / (Effectiveness + conduit + luck)

GM: Detect Stones:
Range = Cohesion + Will + Academic
Effectiveness = Essence + Mind + Knowledge + Cohesion + Will + Wisdom +
Collegiate + Academic +...
Sheldon = 17 paces, 58%
Tor = 14 paces, 48%
Merin = 16 paces, 53%
Sannit = 13 strides, 47%
Total = 54.5 paces, 196%
Time = rarity * days / (Effectiveness + conduit + luck)

[sblock=Time]Iron = 1 day / (212 + 100 + 42) = 4 minutes
Zinc = 1 day / (212 + 100 + 51) = 4 minutes
Tin = 1.4 days / (212 + 100 + 54) = 6 minutes
Aluminum = 1.4 days / (212 + 100 + 77) = 5 minutes
Copper = 2 days / (212 + 100 + 50) = 8 minutes
Silver = 2 days / (212 + 100 + 98 + 54) = 6 minutes
Nickel = 2.4 days / (212 + 100 + 74) = 9 minutes
Titanium = 3 days / (212 + 100 + 31) = 13 minutes
Gold = 4 days / (212 + 100 + 64) = 15 minutes
Carbone = 1 day / (196 + 100 + 75) = 4 minutes
Pietrazulfo = 2 days / (196 + 100 + 64) = 8 minutes[/sblock]
GM: Walking in close proximity, the men begin by searching for iron, then run through the more rare metals. Only trivial amounts of each were located about the swamp. Once the search for metals is satisfied, the search turns to the stones. Carbone is detected within a few minutes; and after digging around in a small hillock, most of the tiny rise is composed of the substance producing 36 bricks worth. A single brick worth of pietrazulfo is also located.

OOC: Search Results:
36 bricks Carbone
1 brick Pietrazulfo

"Lyndha sensed this activity. We have been traveling for 10 days. How powerful must she be to detect activity at this range?" - Sheldon

Bolo thinks out loud, "Maybe she used something to increase her range, like a cauldron or a crystal. We can ask her when we return."

While the others search for metals, Bolo copies down the scripts and symbols in the tree. "In case we run into those that use these things again," she explains.

Sannit collects all the people bones and bodies and throws them into a pile. "Let's burn them," he says. "So no one can come after us and use these things."

Day 46: Leaving the Tree, Day 11, Afternoon

Bolo thinks out loud,
"Maybe she used something to increase her range, like a cauldron or a crystal. We can ask her when we return."
Indigo nods as Sheldon speaks,
"That is a good thought. We should ask discretely, of course."

GM: Bolo notices several of the symbols repeat. She copies the scripting as best she can. It feels more like making a drawing than writing words, but she has a steady hand.

Sheldon nods in agreement and help to collect the bodies. Some of the hanging decorations that are difficult to reach, he simply ignites where they hang. The items discovered that seem worthwhile are gathered into one bag, as they have not yet been identified or divided; afterwhich, the pack animals are readied and the Seekers head back toward town in a more direct route than their arrival.

As the swampy area of the ground becomes more narrow giving way to dry, it is discovered that the swamp was created quite naturally. A very large pine had long since fallen across the branch of the stream, its decomposing mass making a regular good home for a family of musk rats, thereby, increasing the blockage. As time went by, the backed up water changed the flora and fauna of the area to create such a unique microhabitat.

By evening, when it is decided to make camp, the Seekers have cleared the swamp, seeing no sign of the few departed Evipau nor any potential danger.

As the evening meal is enjoyed, Sheldon asks,
"Do we want to look into any of these things we found with the Evipau; and also, do we wish to return to Southroad Fair directly?"
