    defensive casting, not rolling?

I'd tell my DM that SOP is casting defensively, and that I had to tell if it wasn't the case. I mean, honestly, what experienced spellcaster would forget to cast defensively just because a player was a bit absentminded?

    Permanant Character Death

My milleage does indeed vary. I played in games with permanent PC death, and I hated it. I know people like that sort of play, but the whole "risk = fun" concept never fit my style. I don't need nor want an air of danger in my game - I have no fun worrying for my PC. I also don't play with...

    Permanant Character Death

I don't have such spells or monsters, or the cinematic rescue takes effect. I noticed that I prefer a game where people try cinematic stunts and daring plans much much more than a game where players play it safe, choosing the smartest, less riskiest plan. Fear for my PC makes a game unbearable...

    Pros and cons of PDFs

Pro: a) You can search the document much easier than a book. Want to know where that "fatigue" rule is detailed? type the word and look where it appears. I use the SRD at my table, and it massively speeds up game play whenever I need a rule looked up. b) Much easier to transport if you have...

    Permanant Character Death

I don't kill off PCs as a rule, at least not without the consent of my players. PC death is no fun for us, so we don't do it. I'd not play at all in a campaign where PC death is permanent.

    PC's Killing PC's

I usually make the players create characters that have ic-reasons to be together, and I discourage or outright ban PCs that do not suit the rest of the PCs, so PCs killing PCs does not come up in my game.

Duelist -- Doesn't work as advertised?

I think the Duelist in Sword & Fist works much better than the one in the 3.5 DMG. Earlier and better precise Strike, for once. Only problem would be cherry-picking the first levels, but that is another thing.

    How do you calculate XP?

We don't use xp anymore, just level up from time to time when we feel like it. Before we just had story xp - basically, the DM awarded flat xp to the party after finishing an adventure, not so much based on the "difficulty" of the adventure but on the rate of advancement he desired for the campaign.

Do you think a character should be resurected or changed when it dies ?

I don't kill off PCs unless the player wants it, or risks it, so the question never turned up. If a player changes PCs, which did happen, I would not accept just any new PC, the new PC has to fit in the party and in the campaign. PC-concepts that are incompatible with existing PCs are out.

    Chains and Misery - opinions?

Hmmm... In one of my campaigns we have slave owners among the PCs, although they aren't evil. I own Chains and Misery, but I don't recall using it much if at all - although I have to add that I usually don't use d20 sourcebooks for rules, just for ideas and maybe flavor, and the flavor of...

    The DM's Percentage

I can't really say how much of my material is original - I have read a ton of books, both fantasy, SF and textbooks, I surf the net, I watch movies and anime, I read fanfiction. Sometimes I take a character from one of those sources and plug it in a game as an NPC, more or less adapted (I once...

Everyone, Tell us about your games, please!

3 players + 1 DM each in my 2 D&D groups. Almost always in one group, roughly 50-75% of the time in the other. 2 players have run adventures in one group, in the other group there is a co-DM. Both groups only have male players. Not anymore. I order online. Only homebrew. I ran a free...

What would get you to use psionics?

I'd only run psionics if the "psionics is another form of magic" rules were in effect. I don't want to deal with the 2E idiocy where magic defenses were no use against psionics, and every villain had to be protected against psionics or was just a walk-over.

How do you keep in-game secrets?

We usually don't. My players are good enough not to act on ooc knowledge, so it is not a problem if they know that x has been charmed - on the contrary, it often is more fun to know about it and play it out.

Book of Erotic Fantasy previewed at GenCon

I do not agree with this at all. As long as you live there is hope. As long as you live there is the chance to get better, to get over it. Dead is dead - no more chances, no more hope, no more anything. Just stating that it is better to kill than to rape is so wrong I can't really put it in...

So anyone NOT changing to 3.5?

I won't be changing my own two campaigns I DM, especially not the classes, but I will use quite a lot of the main rules, especially some skill clarifications and the combat rules.

    "Death from Above" attack bonuses?

The Sword and Fist 3.0E Duelist has a special ability called "acrobatic attack", which requires to leap at or down on an opponent for +2 attack/damage.

How many have or intend to buy 3.5 books?

I preordered all 3 books months ago, and recieved them this week. Don't know if I'd buy them today anymore, especially after getting the SRD. Part of the reason is thatthe SRD is much more useful for me thanks to the bookmarks and the fact I use a laptop at the gaming table anyway, another part...

GenCon, sleep, hard-core gaming and drowsy driving

I usually sleep 6 hours a night during the week, and catch up during the weekend. I also usually take a 1 to 2 hour nap in the afternoon before saturday game night. I never got sleepy while gaming, even when we gamed until the morning, or when discussing/chatting afterwards, and I think it is...

Help me DESTROY the Forgotten Realms

I too believe the Realms can be grim without too much altering. Just tone down the goodness among the leaders of the "good states", and replace it with more pragmatism, egoism and politics. When most of the leaders think of themselves/their country/their organisation first and of "Goodness"...
