A different approach to katanas

My reasoning for the critical was that the sharpness and lightness alone helps to make criticals happen more often, but proper use of the razor edge to eviscerate your opponent would justify the x3. Whether you use the stats of a bastard sword or whateveer is just a matter of personal taste really... My one real concern was if dropping the damage dice and making it exotic was enough to balance the critical hits of the weapon. Anyone have some rough calculations on that?

Statistically, your version isn't really worthy of being an Exotic Weapon, only a Martial Weapon, pretty much. An 18-20 threat range like the scimitar's would probably make it Exotic-appropriate instead (and the 'lower crit multiplier if used as a longsword martial weapon' part doesn't really need to change). Then it would basically be a scimitar that deals more critical damage if used with the right EWP feat, but then, criticals are unpredictable and relatively rare in general (especially since 3.5 removed the stacking of Keen magic weapons with a wielder's Improved Critical feat).
