A Total Freaking Noob With Battlerager Vigor ?

Ok, so I've read a lot of threads on the new system for not stacking temp HP.

I have a level 1 dragonborn fighter.

let's say my Con is +4

1. So on any attack with melee that hits I get +4 to Temp HP, but it doesn't stack? So even if I did it 2x in same encounter, still just 4 temp HP?

2. If I attack using anything with the invigorating keyword EVEN if i miss, it still gives me the 4 temp hp?

3. If I attack using crushing surge (has invigorating keyword) would I have 8 temp hp, because it gives 4 for the melee attack and 4 for the invigorating?

4. Do I have an unlimited amount of these temp hp points to keep getting in the encounter or can it only give me the temp hp once in an encounter even though it's an at-will power?

Any help is appreciated.

I think you mean Constitution, not Charisma, right?

1) Yes, those hps from any hit don't stack. But if you lose themby being struck and then hit again, you gain them again.

2) Not sure, this has been errated and I can't remember, but I think so.

3) Yes, your Invigorating Key word powers stack with this feature

4) This happens every time you hit. And everytime you use a power with invigorating key word. Whether you benefit or not depends on whether you still have THPs left or not.

So there is no limit to losing and then getting back temp hp by continuing to use these moves?

Would it be safe to say then you can't have more then 8 temp hp under the Con +4?

First, make sure you're trained in Endurance. Invigorating natively gives anyone who is trained in Endurance Con Mod THP when they hit with an Invigorating Power.

Moving on.

Any Attack that hits and lacks the Invigorating keyword, you get con mod THP (BRV Feature). Any attack that has the Invigorating Keyword and misses you get con mod THP (BRV Feature). If you hit with an Invigorating Power you get Con Mod (BRV)+Con Mod (Endurance+Invigorating). These stack because BRV says they do, but at that point they are just ordinary THP.

However let us say you had Con mod of 4 and 9 THP. You hit with an Invigorating Power (8 THP). You still have 9 THP. BRV's feature allows the THP to stack only if the action generates THP through some other source simultaneously, the rules for THP not stacking otherwise still apply.

Bear in mind that in order to get the BRV damage bonus you're restricted to Chain, and you will have 2 weak NADs as a Str/Con build. The THP is your "don't-die" mechanic, it'd be useless if you couldn't constantly refresh them.

Wondering how you could ever have 9 THP with a con mod of 4?

Sometimes I think 'gain' is unfortunate wording for temporary hit-points.

How about this, for battleragers trained in Endurance:

Unless you have a higher number of temporary hit-points already;
If you hit with an attack, set your temporary hit-points to your Con modifier;
If you miss with an attack using a power with the invigorating keyword, set your temporary hit-points to your Con modifier;
If you hit with an attack using a power with the invigorating keyword, set your temporary hit-points to twice your Con modifier.

(Various feats which give you extra temporary hit-points need to be taken into account, of course)
