[Adventure] Serpent's Skull: Souls for Smuggler's Shiv (DM: Mewness; Judge: THB)

"My dear Fire-Haired Girl, I am sorry I didn't wake you for the sight, but the beast was only here for an instant. By the time I'd have woken you up, you'd have been cross at me and thought me a trickster. It flew by during the second watch. Perhaps you'd like to be awake for that watch tonight, just incase it follows a routine?"

OOC: Rolling Perception. I'll give others a chance to roll before putting up anything else IC.

The Irregulars spread out and try several vantage points.

Kane squints at the wreckage of the ship with his good eye, and then further down the coast trying to spot the distinct twin peak rocks from the drawing. he then waits patiently for those with unimpaired vision to tell him what it is he isn't seeing.

Noriaki, on the other hand, takes a while to get ready. There always seems to be one more thing he needs to check, or another straightening of a clothing item. He does get ready, though, and heads out with a formal bow to Sasha, promising to bring her back something interesting.

On the hike, he keeps a stiff upper lip, though it's apparent that he still doesn't enjoy traversing the jungle. He seems to always be wiping single drops of sweat form his brow, or brushing away a bug. When they emerge from the jungle, his mood brightens, and he leaps upon the rocks gleefully, scanning the area for anything interesting.

He calls out the others, "I see something odd upon the beach! I can't see what it is, but the color stands out. Take a look."

[sblock=mechanics]Perception: 1d20+1=18 hooray![/sblock]

"Well spotted, sir Noriaki," Hú Lí says, peering over Noriaki's shoulder. "I too see this. What do you think it is?"
She looks out to sea, then back towards the island.
"This does not look like the drawing," she says. "Should we walk farther south?"
[sblock=ooc]Perception Roll #118(1d20) +17 = 35
Perception Roll #216(1d20) +17 = 33[/sblock]

"Well spotted, sir Noriaki," Hú Lí says, peering over Noriaki's shoulder. "I too see this. What do you think it is?"

Castile can just barely make out the suspicious object at this distance as well. "Something that washed up from a shipwreck... supplies, perhaps? I think we can manage the slight detour to have a look."

Castile exhibits super-dwarven ability in navigating the rocky terrain, no doubt thanks to the pixie tonic. She sets a fast pace for the others to follow.

OOC: oops, that's bear's strength. Hey, bulls are strong too...

Looking where the others are pointing on the beach, Takahaan can't really make out anything among the landscape. Hiding his annoyance, he speaks. "Well, whatever it is that you all see, let's check it out."

Working his way down the escarpment tentatively, Takahaan loses his balance once or twice, but keeps upright and makes it down alright.

[sblock=Rolls]Perception roll #1 and #2: 1d20=18, 1d20=6 Takahaan seems to have failed both the rolls :P

Athletics roll: 1d20+9=19
Sweet, he makes it down the rocks okay. Well, I'm assuming he does... What was the roll required to successfully make it down?

GM: The DC was moderate, so that’s 4 successes and quite sufficient.

The group carefully makes its way down the steep slope, the stronger climbers helping to steady everyone else. The small splotch of red spotted by the sharper-eyed individuals becomes evident to everyone, but its nature remains mysterious until the adventurers get close.

It proves to be a light woolen scarf, partly buried in the sand. Not far from it, Castile digs up a large object that proves to be a heavy coat with shiny buttons. Although these articles are meaningless to Kane, everyone else recognizes them--Ieana wore such a scarf, and Kovack such a coat.

To the south, the beach gives way to more rocks, and the ground begins to rise again.

[sblock=Perception 18 (active only; +2 on the check if you are trained in Nature)]Looking around the area, you find fragments of charred wood and traces of soot--clear evidence that someone lit a campfire here. Unfortunately yesterday’s rains have probably scattered and buried any other traces.

[sblock=Perception 23 (same roll)]On a rock to the south you find some subtle signs--a trace of soot, perhaps carried from the campfire by someone’s shoe, and some tiny fibers from someone’s clothing. It looks as though at least initially they headed south along the coast.[/sblock][/sblock]
