I suspect that Tigh might not survive at the end of this season the way things are going for him...

At least it was neat to see how things were like on a baseship, though now I'm wondering what was the point of the cylons living on Caprica living a lot like humans there drinking coffee and shovelling dirt.

When Tigh picked the gun up from the table during the Adama confrontation, I thought he might actually shoot himself.

I'm not so sure about this episode really. I think it stands out for being NOT a "BSG" episode.

The episode didn't work in the editing room - it was a disaster and they had to rewrite a lot of it in post production - re-recorded dialog and used bloom to hide lips moving, etc.

The style to BSG so far has been one of "truth" in terms of how events unfold and "documentary" in terms of camera style. All the jerky hand held camera movements which are very much a signature style in BSG are there to enhance this "real" feeling in the show.

But Torn wasn't like that at all. It was a very surreal style throughout and I think it sticks out like a sore thumb in the series. Simply put: Battlestar Galactica (the series) is not like Torn (the episode) at all.

That does not mean that the idea of a virus of some kind destroying the Cylons is not a very interesting plot hook. And from the preview of next week's show - I think Humanity's response to weaponize it is a "true" response to the opportunity presented.

Sharon/Athena may be exposed - but the Galactica has the doctor - and he's all about fixing bodies in a way the Cylons don't appreciate. They bail on bodies and download when needed. Medical science for humanity is more about persevering and stick-to-itveness.

At the same time - the way out for the Cylons in all of this is Baltar and Hera. Baltar used Hera's stem cells to put Roslin's cancer into remission and his saving grace on this one will probably be a similar move to save the day (and stave off his execution).

Of course, finding out that the Cylons cured it through a Hera like wonder cure will probably be another swirl around the bowl for Athena and Helo - who at some point in the next 4 or 5 episodes are going to find out about what happened to her - and NOT be happy.

Lastly, they have re-introduced in a big way the entire idea that Baltar is possibly, in truth, a Cylon - One of the Five.

As one of my gaming buddies says of Baltar: Of course he's a Cylon. We see him get shredded by a nuclear blast at the beginning of every episode. Wake up!!

It's an interesting point of doubt in the show all along...and looks to get more interesting.

like putting everybody back into their original jobs.
Though they haven't finished this process yet, and in some parts, they can't.
Baltars return to the RTF is very unlikely, and it will certainly not put him in any old position.
Starbuck and Tigh are on the loose. Unlike we first suspected, Tigh hasn't gone back to becoming XO. Starbuck isn't flying.
The fate of Starbuck and Tigh though makes me wonder if BSG has gone even darker than it was before...

But this doesn't bother me - it looks like some interesting storylines will come up with these new situations.

I wonder if this might have been a deliberate choice, since so much is happening on the Cylon basestars - to make the distinct difference between the human and cylon sides in the story.

What I wonder about:
The device that the scouting Basestar found in the Lionhead nebula seems to be of human origin, most likely left by the settlersof the 13th Colony
What was it original purpose?
Was it a marker?
Why did it affect the Cylons so badly? Is it just a coincidence, a ancient biological virus that either mutated in space or died out on the 12 Colonies, meaning the Cylons never took precautions for it?
Was it a mechanismn to protect the 13th Colonists from the Cylons that they shouldn't even know to exist when they planted it?
Is it a sign for a connection between the 13th Colony, the Cylons and/or the Cylon God?

The Voyager like beacon is interesting. I have to guess that it will be brought back to Galactica.

Makes you wonder where they are going with all of this though. Is Earth the 13th Colony - or are the colonies the colonies and Earth the original human howeworld? (that would seem intuitive).

Such that finding Earth might be a ruin - or finding Earth as it might be 3500 years from now - a civilization VASTLY more advanced than the Colonies (or the Cylons now).

I guess if the series last long enough....we'll find out.

Was it a mechanismn to protect the 13th Colonists from the Cylons that they shouldn't even know to exist when they planted it?

"All of this has happened before; all of this will happen again"

The mantra of the show is that this is history repeating itself. Or a complex prescience/precognition which has envisioned all of this happening, long ago and it is finally playing itself out now.

Whatever the case, the possibilities of "accident or intentional"" is a question posed by the show - and one they do try hard not to answer unless they feel they have to.

Did Lee demote himself or did he just not repaint his Viper?
Certainly seems as a Commander he should be the XO. Moreover Lee is a pretty good Battlestar Tactician, he certainly used the Peagasus to good effect whenever he went into battle.

He is the Cag, top cag, once again.
