And a better question has to be asked.

Why in the blue blazes, they need a 'new home'...now? (Meaning Cylons)

What the frak happened on their own home planet.

Yeah, I was wondering that too. Didn't know if I'd missed something or they just want to be able to add in another secret to solve later so the show keeps giving us surprises.

And I know I'm a bit late with this, but regarding the 2 part mini series: The scene at the end where the ships leave the ammunition depot, Starbuck and Apollo are the last ones in the sky. The commander then contacts Starbuck and says: "Goodmorning Starbuck, what do you hear?" To which she smilingly replies: "Nothing but the rain." As bits of metal hit her cockpit.

Is there some kind of underlying meaning I'm missing here?
I think Ron Moore explained it in a podcast, interview or blog post. It is "probably" coming from a military song Kara and Adama both knew and they sometimes refer to it back. But just like the "Sometimes you have to roll the hard six" it is never actually explained in the show - it are things characters have picked up and use from time to time.

That's my pet scenario. That at/near Earth there's a thriving human society (or more than one), quite capable of swatting the Cylons like bugs... and not particularly interested in taking in 50,000 refugees with their nasty neighbors chasing them. Dropping in on a war between multi-system human empires would be fun...
Though it is also very anti-climatic - we used to believe the RTF consists of the last humans. Having a human empire out there that doesn't care for Galactica would make the ship's efforts meaningless.
Galactica will have to mean something to Earth if people are still living there.

Honestly, I have no idea what would actually be a good and fitting end to Galacticas voyage. I think they need to find Earth, and they need a way to solve the situation with the Cylons.

I disagree with Sal going the suicide route though it might be a close call. I can see him going the Babylon 5, Michael Garibaldi way, and give us a glimpse of the realities in the fleet from the civilian side. I can see him falling for some femme fatal and running some organization.

Episode was great as always. I have a question about a slightly unrelated matter.

Does anyone definitively know the schedule for this season? I thought that Sci-Fi delayed the start of this season from Jul to Sept so they could continuously run a full season of 20 eps, but I see people referring to 10 for the season. Are they running 20 continuously? 10 then a relatively brief break and 10 more relatively soon, or (the horror), 10 episodes for the season and then no more episodes until NEXT season in the fall of 2007?

Thanks!

Possible ten this year, then the rest (Season 3.5) coming into January. Then for Season 4.0, in the fall.

Yeah, but that one's a clear craps reference, so at least I get it. :) (I don't actually mind not understanding the other... in fact, I found it quite endearing.)

So basically, it's an actually relatively uninterrupted season. Most shows go into repeats in December for the holidays.

When the time comes to end the show, I hope they do it with a feature-length 'only in theaters' movie.

A good one of course.

And as I much as I like to see a lot more, I actually hope they only make one as to not milk it to death.

(can you actually milk something to death?)

Personally the talk of a human empire etc has me wondering if this show will pick up another of the ideas from the classic BSG series, namely the planet Terra which was home to a militaristic society of humans. Granted the idea would need some work from its original inception, but I think it could provide a whole slew of plotlines for numerous episodes with the RTF finding "Earth" of a sort.

Unfortunately I don't think that combination is possible. In order for it to be good it would have to be like a grand episode, but in order for it to be a theatrical movie, they'd have to introduce all the characters to some degree, explain a bunch of the motivations we already understand, and have a fair bit of backstory exposition. Serenity handled it reasonably well, but I still would have enjoyed the film a LOT more if they hadn't had to explain so much or keep characters from doing certain things that would require an explanation.

Me, I'd prefer just a 4-hour miniseries or such to end it, as it began.
