Death Blow questions

The Death Blow feat allows you to make a "coup de grace" as a Standard Action. Are you allowed to do this with a "partial" attack? Are you allowed to do this with the "free melee attack" you get from Expert Tactician?

Can you "Ready" a coup de grace (the normal full-round kind)? Such as, "I ready an action to coup de grace the first enemy I see helpless".

Can you "Ready" a coup de grace from Death Blow (which makes it a Standard Action)? Such as, "I ready an action to coup de grace the first enemy I see helpless".

You can do anything in a partial action that you can do in a standard action, minus a move.

Yes, but you can only use it against the opponent currently denied his Dex mod to AC.

Why would you want to? I can't see any real advantage for doing so.

Again, not sure why anyone would want too.

You would want to in team combat... Let's say one player has the means to "paralyze" NPCs you are fighting or some other way make them helpless. The other player may want to Ready a coup de grace to kill said NPC. Of course thinking about it now, Delay would work just as well...

Sorry, kreynolds, I can't imagine an enemy who retains his Dex mod to AC while you are able to CDG him :D

No, a 'free melee attack' is far from the same a standard action.

What you can do with a melee attack is:

An attack with a melee weapon (hence melee attack).
A Disarm
A Grapple
A Trip

(Ref: PHB, page 123, 137, and 139).)

I know it isn't the same thing as a Standard Action, but it can occur within a Standard Action. In other words, I declare I am going to do a Standard Action. As part of my move for that Standard Action I move up to a helpless foe, helpless foe does not have a Dex bonus to AC against me, Expert Tactician kicks in, I use the "free melee attack" as a coup de grace because of Death Blow and because I am doing a Standard Action this round. Then I can take my regular "action" that I get with my Standard Action.

No. A CDG is NOT a melee attack it is a CDG.

You can only make a melee attack (or anything that considered to be a melee attack) with the 'free melee attack'.

For what is considered a melee attack, see my post above.

A free melee attack cannot be used to do a CDG. A free melee attack is just that, it's an attack action (A single attack, trip, disarm, etc). A CDG does not qualify as an attack action even with Death Blow.
