D&D 5E EB's Into the Eye of the Storm - PotA Campaign - IC

The constable smiles as most of the group volunteers wholeheartedly. He turns to Terry and answers her solemnly, "I'm sorry that I'm not sure to their exact number. The hunters where ambushed in the dark." To her inquiry about dead or alive he adds, "I would prefer they be brought in alive, we need to keep some sense of justice, even so far from civilized towns like Waterdeep. But if you need to defend yourselves then you do what you all must do to keep from getting hurt."

OOC: Let me know when the final two characters are ok with going bandit hunting.

Hills partitioned into fields and pastures by fieldstone fences or hedges surround Red Larch. A mile or so outside the town, cultivated areas give way to unspoiled wilderness. Miles of hills, woods, and grassland stretch on as far as the eye can see, filled with plentiful wildlife.

But all this serene beauty is wasted on Captain Barakas. The only thing to bring a grin to his lips is the storm clouds he sees gathering in the west. He hopes the wind changes and brings those dark thunderheads to this area, flying in a storm would brighten his dark mood.

Getting back to the task at hand he catches the glimpse of a fire from between the tree tops. Whoever built it did a good job hiding the light from the road, but not from the air.

In a brush-choked dell a short distance from the Cairn Road is a makeshift camp in front of a cave entrance. Four surly humans sharpen their blades around the fire. Nearby is a wagon with a wooden cage atop it. Inside the cage, a black bear paws at the bars.

Barakas rejoins the others and then leads the group towards the dell.

While her allies aren't in the fray yet, Cyan seizes the opportunity to call upon her draconic heritage. She moves until she estimates the proper angle and then her mouth opens wide, almost unhinging her jaw like a snake, and producing a quick flash of lightning!

OOC:
Move to K6
Lightning Breath vs Bandit 1&2 for 4 damage. If they make Dex save DC 11, then 2 damage

Lightning Breath vs Bandit 1 & 2, save dc 11 vs DEX: 2D6 = [3, 1] = 4

Talin slips into the woods drawing his bow and moving towards the bandits. He nocks an arrow and takes aim at one of the men. He waits as the others move into position.

OOC: Going to hide then move up towards the rock and move around it so get a shot at the bandits around the fire. Will hold until they react.
Stealth: 1d20+8 10
That was a crap roll.

Terry casts Shillelagh on her quarterstaff and moves to K11 (should be able to get there). She assumes a defensive posture (Dodge). She will beat on anyone who attempts to release the bear.

The calm of the day is suddenly erupted as a bolt of lightning cuts through the serene wilderness. Luckily for the bandits some of the trees and brush slowed down the lethal bolt. Talin moves quickly knowing the bolt would distract the bandits for only a moment. And then an arrow pierces his leg. The shaft lodged in and through the leg. Talin thought he was hidden well enough, it looks like he got hit by a lucky blind shot.

Barakas took the bolt as an omen and launched himself unto the top of a huge rock. He demanded the bandits surrender and tell him where Jolliver Grimjaw is or they were all going to fall before the oncoming storm. They chose the wrong path and fired at the tiefling, their arrows bouncing off the his shield.

Niklos feel in behind and was as quiet as a mouse.

Terry moved through the brush as her staff began to glow a pale green. She watches the bear cautiously as it reacted to the lightning. It starts to howl and rock the cage back and forth. And then she notices there is no lock, only a pin in place to hold the cage door close, and that is looking loose... then the bear shoulders the cage door and tumbles out of the cage right next to her.

OOC: NOTE: Talin can take his held shot at the bandits, and then take his regular turn for round 2

Captain Barakas Stormsword bellows a mighty laugh as the bandits fire at him. He unleashes his longsword and soars down at the brutes, slashing.
