Enterprise 12-03-04

So first Coto cleans up the TCW mess and now has cleaned up the non-Vulcan Vulcan mess. For a brief moment I was afraid that the BBEG at the end would be the BBEG from the TCW. Boy am I glad that wasn't the case was even happy at giving the Romulans a good future setup. I'm trying to think if there is anything else he still needs to clean up from B&B days.

Agreed. Aside from a potential prelude to the Romulan war, we have some nice backstory explaining just how long the Romulans have been dangling "Reunification" as a potential reason to destabilize or invade Vulcan.

Well put. Coto is giving pretty good stories and staying within Trek conventions. Like Brown Jenkin siad he's even cleaned up the messiness of non Vulcan Vulcans.

So maybe well see the beginnings of the Earth/ Romulan war? Neato.

Yeah, this episode rocked! The ending was particularly good. First we're told that Vulcan is going to give Earth more leeway. Here's one more step towards humanity's leading role in the Federation. Then, they drop a massive bombshell on us: V'Las has been secretly working with the Romulans! Man, I've been waiting for something like this during all of Enterprise's run. Unfortunaly, reruns are slated for the rest of the month. :( I can't wait for fresh spisodes to pick up in January.

Except for T'Pol cure. What, after all the fuss, she's just cured now like it
was all a bad dream? I dunno, but I thought the disease added an extra
dimension to the character, even if it's been ignored in favour of a drug
problem and tragic romances.

I see it as Coto fixing yet another Bermaga screw up. So didn't bother me at all.

it just keeps getting better and better... now, if this is actually the last year, I'll be really disappointed... before, I wouldn't have cared...
Is the time frame of the show the right one for the famous Earth/Romulan war that TOS talked about? It's so freaky to have a war where one side doesn't even know what the other side looked like...

It would be nice if the 'cure' wasn't the solution - that T'Pol's emotional disturbances and inability to do "cool Vulcan things" was more about her own fears and troubles controlling her emotions than anything else. I thought the best thing about the whole arc was her conversations with Archer about Surak's ghost and why he would choose a human host. I think she's afraid/jealous that Archer, even though he's human, is somehow more perfect than she is. That would be an OUTSTANDING "just on the Enterprise" episode I think. Of course I would find it sort of even cooler if they managed to somehow fit in a love triangle angle between her and Trip and Archer - she obviously idolizes the Captain, who is Trip's best friend and confidante. Trip is safer, but she's always seemed closer to Archer. Trip's been through so much, and he's such a nice guy - he needs a reason to betray the entire human race for and then to redeem himself. But that would be too interesting a story arc for Star Trek I think :)

I said last week there was a Romulan connection and I was told it was too cheezy or not possible. But there was one afterall. Though not EXACTLY as I envisioned it was damned close. And it was well written. IMO.

Of course there's a possible setup there for the Romulan Wars, the hard core fans expect them to show up sometime soon, so this scene was pretty much a treat for us. I know my reaction was, "Oh, yeah!!!!!!". :) Also it might help to retain more casual fans who might be curious as to where this will lead. There's going to be more of them this season as well, so this might be a setup, or just some foreshadowing.

As for the background between the Vulcans and Romulans, it seems to me from Trek episodes ever since "Balance of Terror", that though the Vulcans (in general) didn't know (originally) the Romulans are descended from them, the Romulans haven't forgotten it at all. I'm curious as to how this will be developed as well.

Yes. The official timeline has the Romulan Wars pegged at around 2256. This episode is set in 2254. So we're getting pretty close.
