The rest of Serin's group pauses, holding their breath as they try hard to discern what could possibly be in the woods. Yun's straining pays off as he hears, or at least thinks he hears, the sounds of clicking and clacking coming from the shrubs the rogue motioned to. At exactly that same moment, the ground errupts below Jessern. A big arse bug-like creature charges the duskblade from below, catching him in its larger than life mandibles.

Chao ducks sideways, aiming for a clean shot at the creature's exposed hindquarters and with a quick set of arcane words and gestures fires a superheated jet of steam at the creature, the crystal pendant at his neck glowing with an inner heat as he does so. As the jet strikes, he makes one final gesture that causes the veil wrapped around his hair to flare briefly, adding another jet of flame to the strike.

Firing a Jet of Steam, empowered with my spellshard, at the creature, aiming the line so as not to hit anyone else (shouldn't be too hard since it's large), and then activating the Veil of Flame (1st of 3 uses/day) for an extra 1d6 damage. Return to the Temple: Twistedmindinc, damage from Jet of Steam (5d4,1d6=[2, 4, 4, 4, 1], [3]) for 25 points of damage, 14 on a successful DC 15 Reflex Save (extra d6 not halved).

Jessern's winces as he backpedals away from the insect, glancing at Eric over it's carapace. "It's demonstrating that itself quite ably." he says, pained and faintly exasperated.

Returning his attention to the actual pressing issue, Jessern utters a few clipped syllables and the blade of his guisarme crackles with electricity before he swings it vengefully at the insect.

Everyone springs into action. Yun kicks wildly at the Ankheg's head, missing horribly. Chao, on the other hand, isn't messing around and with a blazing burst torches the giant bug-like creature. The insect rears in pain, its' new target picked. Turning its head, beady eyes size Chao up.. and then it hocks up the biggest, deadliest loogy ever. Shin is hit with a stream of acidic spittle. Apparently this move was a last ditch effort, as Jessern finishes it off. Just when you thought it was safe.. charging from the bushes directly at Serin ( as he is the first one it sees), another Ankheg emerges. It slams into the rogue, snapping angerily at his mid-section with its powerful jaw.


Attack on Chao (1d20+7=15)
Acid damage (4d4=8)
Charging attack on Serin. (1d20+9=23)
Regular damage, plus acid:8 (2d6, 1d4=[1, 4], [3])

Chao turns around with a kind of slow and deliberate precision, very carefully NOT making any jokes about ire, fire, heat or blood, and instead simply gestures, his will bringing forth a blast of fire from behind the Ankheg and searing its rear.

Next round I'm using Fiery Burst (reserve feat) to do a 2d6 fire damage burst behind the critter.
