Heart of Artifice Temporary--Kharas Alone

*The jeweler raises an eyebrow slightly and shakes his head slightly.*

"Remember, you were paying to have it appraised. I'll tell you what. I think there's zinc in there, but that isn't very valuable. I'll take the zinc to separate it and then take 2% of the value of the thelanium and mithral out of the mithral only, and then I'll appraise it for you. Sound fair?"

"2%? It seems you've spread the word. I think I have not much choice." tells Kharas, handing the piece of Thelanium. Kharas notes that if he has something that look very valuable, he will wait to be back to Sharn, where some people evaluate items at fixed price.

(OOC: As long as I'm GM, people will always appraise items at a percentile cost--someone with a 10,000 GP diamond can afford to pay more to appraise it than someone with a 20 GP bloodstone. Maybe you could convince another GM to let you do it for a fixed price, though)

"Alright then. Come back in a few hours when I've finished separating the alloy."

OOC: I know that, but I'm quite sure I can find at least some PC (or another master) to evaluate items for a fixed price... after all, a magical item is evaluated at a fixed price, the cost of an identify spell.

Kharas wander in the city, waiting to come back to teh jeweler for his appraisal.

*As Kharas wanders the city, he sees many of these construct-people going about their business. They strike him as just like ordinary people that he would see in Sharn, doing ordinary things. Eating, talking, laughing, kissing, playing--really the only difference is that he can tell they are constructs by looking closely, but they aren't made out of firm solid metal--it seems something softer, like skin, so if he squints slightly, they could be human.*

*As Kharas looks around at the fountains, plazas, and sturdy buildings of the city, he finds that the inhabitants look upon him with as much wonder, maybe even moreso, than he does them.*

*Eventually, he returns to the jeweler.*

"Well, that was only a handful of alloy, so there wasn't much there. The thelanium is worth 3000 thelii market price, and the mithral is worth 1000 thelii market price, so in total, it was worth 4000 thelii market price. Thus, I took 80 thelii worth of the mithral for appraisal. Would you like to sell me the remaining mithral? I am willing to pay up to 70% market price for mithral. That would net you 644 thelii."

"644? Not much, but should be enough, I hope to not be here for long." tells Kharas, thinking the innkeeper wanted to have it for only 100 thelii. He will thanks the jeweler and go back to teh Inn where he will take a meal and sleep.

*644 thelii in hand (in 14 bills, 6 100s, 4 10s, and 4 1s), Kharas heads back to Liliara's inn, where she is just about to prepare dinner.*

"Oh, Kharas, you're back," Liliara greets him cheerfully, "You wanted to watch me make dinner, right? If not, I can show you to your room for the moment."

"Yes, I was curious to see what you do with Thelanium for cooking food." tells Kharas. He hand out one bill of 100 thelii. "That was the price you ask for the meal and the night I think."

"Yes, that's right. Thank you."

*Liliara heads over to her kitchen, instructing a few staff members along the way. As Kharas follows, he sees the raw ingredients layed out for the shrimp scampi, although there is only a small amount of shrimp. Also, there are the basic ingredients of bread, as Kharas had asked for some bread.*

*Liliara begins the pre-cooking process, heating butter in a large skillet, cooking the garlic until softened, preparing the bread for baking.*

*As she adds in the shrimp, onions, wine, lemon juice, and lathash, stirring and flipping and letting it simmer on each side, she takes out a small amount of thelaniumin her hand and closes her eyes to concentrate. Her hand begins to glow, and as she places it onto the shrimp scampi, there is a strange sound as if of a musical note, and then Kharas smells a sudden explosion of delicious flavour wafting up to his nostrils, even more than before when she had begun cooking. When she removes her hand, the shrimp scampi contains more shrimp than before, and it is cooked to exactly the right point without being overcooked. The colours of the dish seem more vibrant, the aroma more enticing.*

"There, see?" Liliara smiles and winks, "Isn't that pretty much how you do it back in your home, Kharas?"

"Yes, except we don't have Thelanium to give more taste to the food." tells Kharas. "But how do you extract that... energy?... of the Thelanium. Would I be able to do that myself, or it is something between your race and the Thelanium?"
