D&D 5E (IC) Vault of the Dracolich (Ensemble)

It isn't long before the sound of people shouting from up the stairs can (only just) be heard over the sound of water rushing under the grates.

"It shouldn't be long now," said Torbin as everyone moved into position, "So we're going to kill some guards before going to look for this idol?"

He was disappointed in himself that he felt a thrill in the idea of avenging his friend, and he dreaded the idea of facing a hydra - and worse, what if the Dragon really were awake? No, it was much better to murder a few people. He was amazed how quickly that idea had become easy for him.

GM: By now you have stowed the wagon in the storage room and unhitched the horses. The storage room is currently lit by a lantern that was in the wagon, but can be easily doused. For those who weren't here before, the storage room is usually in darkness, while the prison is lit by two lanterns hanging from rafters. The dim light of those lanterns only goes to just store-room side of the portcullis (G13 to I13) so if someone puts out that lantern, the store-room is in darkness. I just threw everyone down, so feel free to move around. The two figures in the back corner near the grate are your prisoners (Enforcer1 and Merc3) who are manacled.

Udit shrugs "Well... the drow didn't say how big that dragon was, but it *was* big enough to kill one of them with a bite - so not one of those cute little pony-sized dragon, that's for sure"

Udit looks at the half orc. "Uh, you look beat up. I don't know how much healing magic we have left... but uh, take a break, we'll set up, wake you up if things are about to get ugly".

OOC: The Genasi siblings all would like to get a good long rest if I possible. Then we can look at killing the hydra. This will be the only long rest they need, I think.

OOC: I wasn't clear... the size speculation regarding the Dragon has to do with it's ability to fit in the hallways you have seen. It shouldn't be able to fit in a 15-foot hallway, which is what the Genasi agreed on. It's possible that the Drow encountered the Dragon in some kind of grand hall, but that's not the impression anyone got from what he said.

Mord moves over to the prisoners and stops to take a good look at the other groups captive. He smiles at the man as his form shimmers and then changes to match, right along with his. Equipment to match the man's. "Might want to gag these two. Anyone have some rope and unneeded socks?"

The general alarm was raised in the Temple in place of the dinner bell, as a number of guards and young acolytes were found slain, and other guards missing at their posts. Bardaby, the Beast, threw down his veal shank as his meal was interrupted by reports of in-fighting between his men, and the clients. Exactly the kind of thing he had expected Siobhan's joining the Cult of the Dragon to have helped to curb.

"Siobhan is dead," reported one of his men, "It looks like Argyle might have finally snapped."

"Bring Argyle to me." demanded Bardaby, and then, Has Rowloe arrived, yet?"

"It seems that he did, but now he's missing. There are others missing as well. And the Drow has escaped."

"Escaped? Something is going on here, and I aim to find what."

Someone is going to regret interrupting my dinner. thought the Beast, as he got up and went to investigate.

"Everyone is across but you and me" Torbin reported to Udit, as the latter secured the grate. "It's damp, dark, and cold, but you're right, that side of the lake will work as a camp."

GM: I'm skipping ahead a little. In case anyone missed it, it's been generally decided to sneak out down a grate, out onto the far shore of a small underground lake. There's a little alcove that the River Gang picked out as a potential secure resting spot earlier. The idea now is that you'll get a long rest there and then go after an Idol, that is probably in a Hydra's den (around the corner from here).

In order to get a rest, you're going to have to make sure that no-one from the Temple comes after you. Mord has done a decent job of implicating an NPC in the death of some of the guards, but that story won't hold up to too much questioning. Feel free to let me know if you have any ideas on how to throw off any pursuit. One way, is that I expect Udit to make a Thieves' Tools check to re-lock the grate from underneath in such a way as to make it look like it was never unlocked. That's one step. Any other ideas?

OOC: Somebody suggested sending them off on a wild goose chase after the Drow? Maybe we could even leave a few other 'clues' to send them deep into the Underdark?

Somehow Udit manages to place the grate back in such a way that it it stuck, and what rust it has now makes it appear to be solidly rusted shut. It seems impossible that someone could have climbed through this grate.

OOC: It's true that the Drow came in from the cavern with the Pillar of the Sun, but there is no entrance to the underdark there, and Stryke didn't claim that there was. Though I suppose it's possible that Udit assumed there was. I should go back and read what he said, because you've already mistook his insult of the sun for him talking about some magic orb. Maybe I wrote his dialogue to cheeky to be clear...
