D&D 5E (IC) Vault of the Dracolich (Ensemble)

"Yes, yes... giant serpents with many heads. Excellent swimmers. It grows additional heads from particularly grevious wounds - and they grow very quickly! Nearly instantly! If it weren't for your aquatic locale, I would suggest fighting it with fire. Fire can sometimes prevent this growth, if the wound is sufficiently cauterized."

As was his habit, the old sage was quiet in thought for a moment. Just as Udit had decided he was done, he added another thought, "Oh, I wouldn't bother trying to sneak up on it. Even while sleeping, a hyrda has at least one head ever watchful. If it has established a lair, it will have become familiar with any direction from which you could possibly come at it. No, if you decide to attack it, a direct approach would be best. Good luck! Tymora be with you!"

"Ok, si we need dedicated burners for the dead heads.
I can do some fire spells if needed and stay ready for the beheading to happen "

Lorenn takes his spell book and elabore some strategy. He wonder what Grease can do underwater before falling asleep.

OOC: The fourth Genasi is busy sleeping off a party with some Troglodytes.

"If everyone can keep the Hydra busy," Aquaria said, "I can slip in to the water and find the idol."

Location: Underground Lake, Pre-Dawn

GM: Here's a map to help you plan your attack. The "Hydra Den" is vaguely marked on the map. The shore around that point is very steep, wet, and slippery. The shore around "the Cove" (with the red obelisk in it) is wide, flat, and muddy. The water in the Cove is thick with some sort of grass-like growth. The channel between the Cove and the Lower Lake (up on the map) is a short but turbulent rapid. The lowest two characters on the map are your prisoners, who have sat tied up all night. The whole place is dark, so only those with darkvision can see at all. Presumably you are using Udit's candle to see each other's faces while planning. A hooded lantern might be a good idea.

GM: In case you missed it, the stream on the right leads to the grate that you climbed down to get here. And yes, those are two Kayaks brought by the River Gang. If you're part of the Infiltrators, and you don't know what that red Obelisk is, someone will tell you, when you see it.

Kurzon looks across the other side of the lake, "It might be worth getting another force on other side so we can maximise the numbers we can bring to the fight?"

"I can easily ferry some accross in but a few minutes - I'm a riverman see" Udit replies, glancing at the others.

He rubbed his chin again - what's the last time he had a shave, 2 weeks ago? - and added "I'm not very fond of the terrain though. We have a bottleneck, unless we all push through fast we won't be able to concentrate fire. So yeah, once we move, we have to go... If you guys can keep it distracted I can shoot for the weak spots I guess?"

Udit frowned... something was bothering him... ahah!

"Wait, we shouldn't split up. We don't know what side the hydra is going to go for. If we have all archers on one side and all swordsmen on the other, the hydra may go after the archers and leave our hand-to-hand warriors not able to hit it. If we split the swordsmen and spearmen etc 50%, we still have some not able to strike it.

Splitting the enemy up is one of the key to victory an old companion said, and he was right. We shouldn't do it to ourselves!"

"... unless that thing can breathe fire or something. Then it's completely different. ... Do they?"

OOC: I swear, my posts aren't posting...

Mord considers the plan and things to himself for a moment.

"We could send the fighters in first and give them close combatants in ahead of the ranged party and give them the initial attacks to draw the beast in. Once it's locked in combat it may prefer to stay there. Also, it would allow the rest of us a chance to enhance our abilities before unleashing out assault. Also, to be at my best I would need some space to unleash my true powers. Wouldn't want to scare anyone..."
