Lost: 2/14/07

I haven't seen a thread on this yet. So I figured I would start one.

I thought the episode was really intersting. Although it raises a whole new mystery before they have solved some of the others. I will post more thought later.

Uh... I don't get it.

I don't know what they were trying to show in that episode, nor what concepts they were trying to introduce, but that was... weird.

I've never seen a show that spends so much time not advancing the plot at all. I like the Desmond character and all but what did his backstory have to do with answering any of the current questions? And now this "time travel" thing? Ugh.

I have to admit, if this was any other show, or if this episode was shown in the first season, I probably would have liked it. But at this point, I find myself being incredibly critical of the show. Every preview says "your questions will be answered" and I'm finding just the opposite.

Then you're asking the wrong questions. You need to ask who Kate will kiss next. No, wait...they didn't even answer that. ;)

Seconded.

I really, REALLY hate time travel.

I'm the opposite on this--if this episode had taken place in season 1, I might've stopped watching the show.

Desmond seemed to make some different choices in his "new life" (actually buying the ring for Penny, not joining the military).... I suppose he might have enlisted (again?) later and we just weren't shown that, but....

We saw in a previous episode that Desmond was apparently jailed and then kicked out of the Scottish military. Does last night's episode mean that occurrence never actually took place? If so, how much stuff from other episodes didn't happen as well?

Part of me is afraid that last night's developments opens a door for the writers/producers of Lost to brush off any dangling plot threads or inconsistencies by saying something like, "Oh, that didn't happen 'this time around'."

***********************************************

That having been said, I'm still cautiously optimistic that my concerns will get shot down next week. The previews seem to show the woman who didn't want to sell Desmond the ring on the island. Maybe the info she fed him last night was a big, steaming load of crap.

Better (in my eyes, at least), it looks like we'll be seeing Cindy the stewardess/Tailie again. She seems to be allied with the Others. Hopefully we'll learn if she was indeed taken and brainwashed or if perhaps she was part of the Dharma Initiative all long, slipped away on her own, and somehow helped to orchestrate the crash of flight 815 on the island.

I really hope that Lost didn't jump the shark last night. I guess...time will tell. ;)

I don't think Desmond time travelled at all. I think it was all in his head. I think he got smacked around by the hatch, had some serious head trauma, and that was his mind's way of handling it. When he got whacked upside the head he woke back up on the island in the present. Now he has this psychic power - it seems likely that the hatch imploding had some serious effects on his brain.

One thing is for sure, it was one weird episode.

Agreed - it wasn't really time travel.
