Very. They don't mix, so a warlock/caster has the spell progression of both, separately, but they can use their slots for any spell they know.

So 3 levels of EK would give him 2 1st lvl spell slots that recharge on a long rest, while the Warlock gives him 2 increasingly powerful spell slots that recharge on a long rest. At lvl 5 Warlock, lvl 3 EK, that means he's got 2 1st lvl spell slots that recharge on a long rest, and 2 3rd lvl spell slots that recharge on a short rest. He can use the Warlock slots to cast during battle, and save the 1st lvl for long duration spells or those he only wants to do once a day, but he can use any slot for any spell he knows.

It gets complicated but having some slots that recharge on short rest and some that recharge on long can definitely be an advantage, especially for Sorcerer/Warlocks, who can convert the Warlock slots into Sorcerer points, thereby granting him a good way to recharge his Sorc points on a short rest.

Edit: I love Warlocks. My favorite characters have always been warlocks. I've tried almost every patron. Still need to try out the Hexblade, though.

Sesto can have the Waterwalk spell prepared (up to 10 people! Lokladf can probably swim well enough to be excluded from the spell). Technically, he has not prepared it for "today" since he didn't know they were going on a cruise down the river. But maybe he could have had it prepared retrospectively with the DM's permission. However, he will definitely prepare it for the next day. How far is the trip to Daggersford? Will we get there in the first day?

In regards to powerfull spell combos... Sesto generally have Bestow Curse prepared which can give disadvantage on ability checks and saving throws for one ability score. This may be good in combination with other spells, just let me know which ability score I need to curse.
Banishment is another good one.
Death Ward could be good for one of our tanks... or a squishy one.
There are many spells on the clerics spell list... if there is one that any of you want that could be used in combination with your abilities then let me know and I will prepare it as soon as possible.

I've been looking at the Bane spell for another character, and it shouldn't be discounted. It's the opposite of Bless, and makes up to 3 enemies have to roll a d4 and subtract the result from every attack and saving throw while the concentration lasts. Effectively, it's granting +1 to +4 to the party's AC and Spell DC's to those enemies it effects. Could be very useful, if someone could grab that.

Yes, it definitely is a bit peculiar, but it works. I'll note that for "spellcasting power", Warlock/EK is *not* an optimal choice, but it fit the character concept best. The best combo (for spellcasting) is probably sorcerer with a dip in Warlock.

Basically, the two EK slots are sort of a "reserve" for when Kalorn's warlock slots are tapped, so I still have a quick defensive spell (shield, absorb element) if I need it. First level spell slots are "weak" ... but it's all you need to cast shield or absorb element!

The class (Warlocks) is very dependent on the pacing of the adventure. They benefit most from one with multiple short rests, but are at a disadvantage with the "one big fight a day" type of play, where they run out of slots very quickly. Same as fighters really.
