OOC: The Enemy Within, using 4E

Melee heavy groups do work really good with a warlord leader. Especially as there should be a lot of free MBA.
Also, I'm going to change presence to Resourceful Presence for those keeping score at home :)

Would an RBA channeling via Sorcerous Channeling count as an MBA for Warlord granting attacks? >.> That'd be pretty cool.

Alain: I didn't even know I COULD do that! :P

I would certainly prefer playing the dwarf fighter. And his MBA will be good :D

Some ranged sorcere at-wills also count as RBA. Direct the Strike could trigger these, too.

And that's why I took Acid Orb. I was just wondering if an MBA generating ability could trigger an RBA channeled through a dagger using Sorcerous Channeling. :P

Well, I'd like to throw out that I'm not new to DnD, but relatively new to 4E. I haven't played a warlord before, so if you guys have any helpful hints or ideas before we start let me know.

For example, 'Commander's Strike' ( MBA +1 to hit with feat and +2 damage) versus 'Direct the Strike' (+1 to hit if target adjacent to me, RBA or MBA).

So any input, let me know.

Look for powers that grant "basic attacks" as opposed to "melee basic attacks". That gives the few ranged folks a chance to do some extra damage. Keep in mind that the majority of Warlord powers that grant attacks are melee based.

Also, after further review, I remembered why I don't play Rangers. I'll stick with the two submissions I have already.

I prefer Direct the Strike. Being able to give ranged attacks is very useful. And in a group with many melee warriors, it can become difficult for the warlord to get in the right position for Commander's Strike.

When I played this campaign through originally, using WHFRP, the bulk of the combat was ultimately dealt with by "Sharp" Spike, the Norscan pit fighter who was a melee combat monster with ugly Toughness and Strength. Most of the other characters were secondary combatants. So being melee-heavy won't be a massive hindrance. Ranged abilities can, and will, be useful, but probably don't require a dedicated character for the group to succeed.

What I will say is that the a lot of the campaign takes place in nominally civilised areas, so characters who are able to function in towns, cities, busy roads and riverways etc. are probably the most important aspect to consider.

Appearance: Alain was a handsome young man, with long black hair which reached to his shoulders. His eyes were a piercing blue, which seemed to pull in knowledge. His garb was composed of a simple, blue silk robe he'd acquired from his father, with a pair of cotton white breeches. His shoes were a solid pair of walking boots, cleanly polished. The youth looked no more than 19 years of age.

Brief History: Sired by a Bretonnian Lord, Alain grew up mired in the intrigues of court life, educated in proper conduct and the like. He did not particularly enjoy it, but it seemed the only thing he was good at, for he was merely average with a sword and his father was ill-pleased with his second-born son's proficiency, particularly due to his propensity for strange events to occur around him, such as blazing light falling from the skies around him, or lightning striking near him. After he reached adulthood, he snatched a robe and boots and simply walked out, adventuring on his own to get away from the petty court life and to hopefully better harness the strange powers he seemed to have.

How's this?
