D&D 5E (OOC) Vault of the Dracolich 5E (Full)

That's what I miss, playing the version where the rules are so chaotic that you turn the corner and opps the group is dead. Happened with a Wheel of Fortune in our first group, no one would stop spinning it.

I've been playing D&D non-stop (each edition as they went) since 1986. 5th is my favorite since 2nd Ed.

But to weigh in on the extra attack stuff (which got a little muddled with two-weapon stuff, which is another issue): You can throw the javelin, draw a sword, and attack with the sword (all while moving) as long as you had the javelin in your hand when you started. (You can only "interact with an object" once for free, otherwise it takes your action.)

It's all well within the bounds of what a remotely competent person could do in six seconds. (If you're feeling a bit too super-heroish).

I have to admit, that has a certain charm. But apparently, we're in the minority. Generally it's been found that people don't like swingy-ness. They don't mind dying per-se (in general, some whiners do mind) but they'd like it to have at least a bit of warning.

Crits are supposed to give us a little of that, but they rarely do.

They did in MERPs that was what I played between 2nd edition and 3rd. We had just finished the Dragonlance Campaign (in 2e) and I wanted to play something new. The Crits in that system and RoleMaster (the Advanced version) were sick.

Examples:
Knee shattered, -9 hits, -60 to activity
stunned 3 rounds

Strike to weapon arm, arm useless
-2 hits/round
stunned 6 rounds

I played a game of my own devising for about a decade called Rampant Griffon that had a crazy wounds system. Many of the PCs wound up with eye-patches and a few had peg-legs. (Nothing like having your leg bit clean off by a dragon!) It was ALL about how well you rolled, so totally swingy, but we always had fun. We had a session where a new guy joined (who was used to playing D&D 3.5) and in his first combat was hit so hard in the shoulder by an orc with an axe, that after the fight was over the whole party had to spend time holding him down and removing what was left of his arm to save his character's life (or he would have died.)

"Congrats! Your new character is alive, but he's missing his sword-arm!"

Udit delivers!

Ding Dong!
"No solicitation!"
"Urm sir? I have package for you, but you need to sign for it. Is this Mr Necromancer?"
"Oh, it must be that skull I ordered! I'm coming I'm coming"
"There you go sir"
"But this box is empty!"
"Special delivery!" *STAB*
"This is the last time I use UPS... urk..."

We've lost a lot of momentum lately, which is too bad. I'm sorry for my part in it (I think I got myself involved in too many games!) I estimate that we only have about 15% of the adventure left, so I'd really like to push on to the end. I'll do my best to keep things moving along.
tglassy, I know you've been busy, and that's okay (I have too) but if you could get some Genasi turns posted soonish, I'd appreciate it.
