Scotley's Tomb of Horrors 3.5

Grackle "Grubeater" Granitetop, gnome sorcerer

Grackle looks at the weapons on Garagos and then back to the man's face. His lip quivers. "Buts...buts ya a'ready took other shinies....Grackle can't keep any shinies....?" the gnome mutters with a quivering lower lip and a sniffle, on the verge of crying.

He slowly removes the shiny goggles, hand quivering, and tosses them at Garagos before running further down the corridor, back to the entrance of the cave, falling on the ground there and weeping briefly. He drags the weasel out of his backpack and pouts "Admiral, they's takin' all my shinies! Grackle can't have no shinies!!" He resumes weeping, as the weasel gnashes its teeth in annoyance and wishes it were strong enough to get out of the gnome's iron grip.

Jillian prods the darkness of the mouth in the green face with the bone provided by Ballista and feels no resistance at all. When she draws the bone back all of it that went into the mouth is just gone. The bone is smooth as if cut by the sharpest blade. Jillian felt nothing.

As you approach within 5 feet of the mist filled archway, the base stones glow yellow on the left, orange on the right, and the keystone 7 feet above glows blue.

OOC: Somebody please give Grackle a shiny! I can't stand to see a grown gnome cry.

OOC: You want to go ahead and bash the wall while Jillian and Ballista play at the end of the hall?

Jillian prods the darkness of the mouth in the green face with the bone provided by Ballista and feels no resistance at all. When she draws the bone back all of it that went into the mouth is just gone. The bone is smooth as if cut by the sharpest blade. Jillian felt nothing.

As you approach within 5 feet of the mist filled archway, the base stones glow yellow on the left, orange on the right, and the keystone 7 feet above glows blue.

Jillian raises an eyebrow at what is left of the bone. Then as she approaches the archway she notes the glowing stones. She moves to the left side of the archway and touches what is left of the bone to the yellow glowing stone. Then she moves to the right side and touches the bone to the orange glowing stone. As she backs away from the arch she glances up at the blue glowing stone and shakes her head. Then she looks for a loose rock, pebble or tile and tosses it into the mist and observes what happens.

Harrison has been busy playing out or gathering in the rope tied to ballista this whole time. He whistles a soft low whistle at the sight of the cleanly cut bone in Jillian's hands and shudders. "I knew something had to be very not good" He says to no one in particular.

Logan Lightbringer, Cleric9, AC28,FF27T17,HP76/76, DR3/-, F+9,R+4,W+11

Logan is greatly saddened by Grackle's plight. He takes out two gold pieces, holds one before him, and palms the other one. Then he approaches Grackle and tries to comfort the brave Gnome. "There, there, Grackle, here's a shiny for you. Don't cry too much, Brave Little Grackle! I'm sure that we'll find lots more shinies before long, but we mustn't stop now! Come on back with us, and let's find those shinies!" Helping Grackle to stand, Logan guides him back to the group. Just before the arrive back, Logan clasps Grackle's hand and presses the other shiny into his palm.

Ballista, HP48/48, AC 24/29vRanged(FF19/24vR-T15/20vR) F5 R13 W6

Ballista rolls her eyes when she notices the rope still tied about her waist. She unties the ropes as she watches whats left of the bone and coils the silk line back all the way to Harrison and sticks it back in her pack after stowing her bow again. Her floating shield politely stays out of the way and Fongul is also silently keeping pace with her as she moves. She pats Harrison on the shoulders as she moves by him. "Good job Bucky."

Slipping a short heavy dagger out of her boot, Ballista approaches the face examining the outside edge of the demonic visage trying to discern how it is attached to the wall and if indeed it could possibly be removed. She picks at the stone around its edge to see if its set on the wall or into it. Being very careful not to get close to the plane of blackness, she looks for any kind of writing while trying to pry it off the wall. She stares at the blackness searching the stories of old in her minds eye to see if this type of thing has been told of before. Bardic Knowledge: (1d20+5=19)

Garagos, AC 29 (T19, FF27), HP 107/107, DR 3/-, F +11,R+6,W+10

"Bah, retake your stuff, Gackle! And the goggle looks darkened and not shiny!" Garagos grumbles, keeping a distance to the black hole.

Harrison gets a faked 'puppy dog' look inb him but that quickly fades as he watches ballista approach the menaceing black 'nothing'

"Careful there, I don't like what it did to that bone that passed through it."

Jillian notes that as she touches the glowing colored stones the mist seems to move and sway in different patterns. The tosses stone seems to vanish as it passes the mist. Jillian does not see it land on the other side.

To her left Ballista works at the edge of the large green stone face. It appears to be set into the wall rather than simple on it. Being nearly 10' tall with the mouth of roughly 3' diameter it is unlikely she could move it once she got it loose from the wall anyway. It seems to be carved from a single large piece of granite. The weight would have to be enormous. After a little prodding she pauses to consider the tales. Generally such all consuming blackness is not associated with anything good. Open mouths are equally bad omens.
