"Let's see what Pelor's glowing countenance can show us."

Logan steps forward and casts a Light spell centered 2 inches behind the surface of the black sphere.

Logan is disturbed to see his magic is unable to shine forth from inside the mouth. He is confident the spell was cast properly, but no light shines forth.

"Pelor's Paunch! We know it's not a solid ball, because we stuck things into it before."

After contemplating the riddle for a few moments, Zorn speaks up.

The riddle said something about avoiding green if I recall. In that case, we should most definitely avoid the green face. The riddle also said something about night's good color being for those of great valor. Logan, what do you make of that? Any idea what that could mean?

"I would presume that 'night's good color' refers to something black. But, beyond that obvious fact, this mystery exceeds my wisdom. Let me think on the problem more."

OOC: I looked all over the thread and I can't find the riddle anywhere. I can find where we discussed it earlier, but no riddle.

ACERERAK CONGRATULATES YOU ON YO U R
POWERS OF OBSERVATION. SO MAKE OF THIS
WHATEVER YOU WISH, FOR YOU WILL BE MINE IN
THE END NO MATTER WHAT!
Go back to the tormentor or through the arch,
and the second great hall you’ll discover.
Shun green if you can, but night’s good color
is for those of great valor.
If shades of red stand for blood the wise
will not need sacrifice aught but a loop of
magical metal—you’re well along your march.
Two pits along the way will be found to lead
to a fortuitous fall, so check the wall.
These keys and those are most important of all,
and beware of trembling hands and what will maul.
If you find the false you find the true
and into the columned hall you’ll come,
and there the throne that’s key and keyed.
The iron men of visage grim do more than
meets the viewer’s eye.
You’ve left and left and found my Tomb
and now your soul will die.

Ballista gives up her scratching and instead goes back past Harrison to the area that the gnome had indicated hid a secret door. "Well this seems like a good time for some of that smashy bashy you were so eager for earlier." She stands back and readies her monstrous bow in case anything comes charging out of the new opening.

"Well, Zorn, I would say that the riddle suggests that we take the path that bears the color black. After all, we are of great valor. And I fully believe that Acererak only expected that those of great valor would be able to penetrate so far into his tomb. But, we will surely face incredibly long odds against success no matter which path we choose. All that we can do is try to avoid those dangers that will slay us instantly with no chance for us to prove our valor."

Smashy Bashy

OOC: Done with the face and the archway for now?

It takes relatively little effort to smash away the plaster and lath behind the image of the tormentor. A perfectly ordinary door is revealed by the smashing. Whatever your were expecting, the reality proves quite mundane. An empty corridor 10' wide and 20' long leads to another door. A quick check reveals no traps and no sound comes from beyond the door.

OOC: Assuming you proceed to the door I need a marching order.

Here is a totally non-binding suggestion for our marching order. Feel free to critcize it to your heart's content.

Grackle Jillian
Ballista
Logan Garagos
Harrison
Zorn

ps: I hope I included everyone!
