Throw ...... out ......... Books? Does not compute. Please input data again.

(I kid, but not by much, and this is indeed an entirely valid viewpoint.)

Well I was offered the books for free after helping out at a local con. I told the fella giving them out to give them to someone who will actually play it. So that sort of counts I suppose.

I see no need to get rid of books. Plus, living overseas I would probably have to carry them to the States, just to get rid of them and it makes no sense. I still have my 1E books sitting around osmewhere.

I mean, do people just keep books that they hate?

Mostly yes, though there have been times where I've been able to work out a trade. I still have Sheoloth: City of the Drow, for instance.

In regards to 4E, the game is not my cup of tea, but I can't write it off entirely. Some of the ideas are good. Really really good. Good enough to be imported into 3.5 to solve certain problems. I like the DMG as a whole and consider it one of the best system neutral books for DMs.

If I can find no redeeming value for a book, then it does eventually end up traded, sold, or buried in my bin full of books I no longer use. Since my book collection is close to that of a small library, I'm extremely reluctant to actually get rid of a book.

I'm saving mine in case anyone on rpg.net has anything good (or even some of the 3.5 books I don't have yet) to trade for them, but so far...I haven't seen anyone looking for them. I even went to WotC's trade board...and people are trying to trade the 4e books for 3e and 1e books but no one is taking. So I figure I'll just be patient. I'm not going to just give them away, they still cost me money and I would rather get something out of the mistake rather than walk away with a pure loss. Hey are you donating or giving away any of your 3.5 books Joe? Sorry Darrin, wasn't talking about you.

Don't throw away-recycle.

There might be a 4E fanboi out there who is looking at his near mint 1E DMG and PHB with same look of meh as you have looking at the 4E books. Find that guy and trade.:)

Our local game store is hosting a big RPG/mini swap meet at thier store on Jan 17th. Time to dump some junk and pick up some goodies.

I don't think I've ever thrown away a book. I'm pretty reluctant to even sell or trade any of my books. This is despite having well over a hundred printed books just for D&D 3.xE alone. I still have my 3.0E Core Rulebooks, for example. They're probably the first books I'd look to offload if I did. I doubt I would get much for them though so I'd probably just donate them to the local library.

I really doubt that my situation is different to most long-time players though. Most roleplayers I know are pack rats when it comes to their roleplaying books.

Games Plus does a few auctions a year but I like the idea of the swap meet too.
